Beloveds,
Fresh organically grown food is the healthiest. And when it is locally grown that is good for our local economy, small farmers and our environment, less travel miles which is good for all of us. And it is fresher, retaining more nutrients.
My good friends, the Huns, Pov and his wife, farm right there in Kansas City, Kansas and are some of the best small farmers in the world, and they sell "regularly" priced organic produce at Kansas City City Market most weekends until 3pm. Sometimes they have their banner flying or I suggest you ask for them. There are many Laotian farmers but they are the only ones growing organically and affordably. Mrs. Huns is allergic to the synthetic fertilizer among other reasons they grow organically. .
I have visited their farm personally and know them and their work and food well and highly recommend them to you not only for their produce but for their humanity as well. They are great people.
You may be able to reach them at
913 671 7316 but they are often busy outside. They also sell beautiful, organically grown cut flowers as well. Please be sure to tell them their good friend Maria Whittaker referred you.
Here is their website for more information, their facebook page and some photos. I have added a little more biographical information about them at the end.

. Huns garden won the award for best minority farmer from the Sustainable Agriculture Research Association of our US government two seasons ag. .
I have known Pov and his domestic partner since 2005 when I visited their farm on the first urban garden tour. It was wonderful and so were Pov and his partner. Their four children, now teenager, farm with them as well.
Pov and his family ended up in the US fleeing war in their home country of Laos. The Vietnam war had spread.
Pov, then a boy, over the ten years I have known him, told me about the six month treacherous journey his family made by foot from Laos to flee the onslaught of the horrific violence. They traveled by foot only a little over a hundred miles to arrive at the Southeast Asian coat where they were taken to the United States. But it took them six months he shared because there were many times they had to stay put or go backwards to avoid violence. They were in a lepper camp for some time as well.
Pov shares this and many other stories about his difficult experiences here in the US since that time with humor. As a boy in Columbus, Ohio he and his family dug up crawdads at night to survive. When they went to Fresno, California, a neighbor taught him how to farm and he has excelled since then.
He went to medical school and only needed one more semester to finish when he ran out of money. He and his wife did have "good" middle class jobs here in Kansas City as a water chemist and bank officer respectively until the recession deleted their positions.
Through all this time they farmed and now they farm full time.
They sell organic produce using no chemicals, pesticides, herbicides or syntheitc fertilizers but to save money they are not certified, an expensive process.
Thank you for any consideration you give my request.
Enjoy.
Warmly
Maria Whittaker
