All -
Citizens' Climate Lobby / York is in the planning phase of a Candidates' Night discussion for our April 18th meeting - 7PM to 9PM, to be held at
UUCY (925 S. George St., near York Hospital).
With the splitting of York County from simply PA-04 into some of PA-11 and a much larger Lancaster-including PA-10 pair of districts, Rep. Perry is suddenly facing multiple strong opposing candidates. The general discussion format will be a "parlor meeting", not a major debate - it will be civilized, respectful and all-inclusive per UUCY and CCL rules.
The more people we can honestly expect to show up, the more interested the candidates will be in showing up personally and taking it seriously vs. sending in a lower-level staffer. George Scott and Shavonnia Corbin-Johnson have already expressed a definite interest in speaking with CCL/Y during a regular meeting of ours, and now with the redistricting increasing Democrats' chances the total candidate count is bouncing around 7 or so.
We will also be sending out a short, carefully-worded questionnaire to the candidates regarding climate change and will be sharing the as results far and wide as possible.
There'll be more info to come, but what I've detailed is what we very likely will be doing April 18th.
There's also a CCL March meeting Wed. the 14th at UUCY 7-9PM if interested, more details on that to follow.
The higher the likely head count, the more serious the candidates will be towards the "parlor meeting" event - so please take a couple hours out of your Wed. April 18th evening to attend, preferably with an additional person as well. If I can get an honest idea how many will be attending, the higher the number the more seriously they will take the climate change focused discussion.
Thank for your time and effort,
Roger Twitchell
