"Dear All,
The next Transition Town Wimborne is next WEDNESDAY, not Thursday, due
to avalability of the CLaRC, and I've just sent of a notice to the
Stour & Avon as follows:
"TTW are doing something different next week; we're asking everyone to
bring along an example of their favourite preserve to "show & tell."
The gardening year is turning from the Hungry Gap towards the Season
of Gluts, so we'd like to explore different methods of preserving what
we've grown, bought or foraged locally. As transport costs rise, food
prices are trailing inexorably in their wake and it's steadily getting
harder to afford to buy a varied & balanced diet. But there's a lot we
can do for ourselves... The meeting is on Wednesday 9th June, 7-9pm at
the CLaRC, King St., Wimborne. Bring a jar, packet or bottle of
something preserved, preferably one you don't mind sharing; recipes
would be welcome too if they're home-made, but aren't essential! But
come anyway, even emptyhanded, if you just want to find out more - all
are welcome.
We will also be "Morsbagging" at the Minster Fair on Saturday 12th
June, and running a draw for a household-sized fruit press (£1 a
ticket) to raise money to buy a bigger one for the use of the whole
community in autumn, when we hope to run a series of apple-juicing
sessions for people to bring their windfalls to, and take away their
own good home-grown apple juice to drink, freeze or ferment. We also
hope to make it available for individual households to rent for a day
or weekend at a low cost."
Whether they'll print some or all of it is, as usual, in the lap of
the gods! There should be posters available to print off from the TTW
website (there is currently one at /web/

you have time or space to pop a few up around the place.
I'm appealing for volunteers to help with the stall at the Minster
fair; an hour or so would be lovely if you can spare it, but even a
few minutes to pop in & talk to people or run the draw would be a
great help! Please email me back with a suggested time if you're free
to help, so I know what coverage I've got. I will also be posting this
on the Transition-BH website so it's a good opportunity to meet other
nearby Transitioners, provided they can get out here with the Folk
Festival on. Though of course some of them may already be coming
specially for that!
We have some long-term projects starting up now; you've just read
about the fruit press, but we're also exploring the possibility of
starting a community orchard or garden in Wimborne, looking at the
possibilities for micro-generation of electricity in & around the town
& wider community, and planning to run a Skills day in conjunction
with the Priest's House Museum before too long. "Green Drinks"
sessions have also been suggested; we need to develop amongst
ourselves a vision of how Wimborne could thrive & flourish in an
energy-restricted future and work out how best to get there and have
fun along the way.
Hope to see you all soon!
Angie."
