Everyone in the U.S. should learn the meaning of this term and reject politicians that use this tactic.
It is how the Brown Shirts began. But once they had power they turned violence into an official and industrial process. And the U.S. is right on the edge:
Again, the U.S. must face it's own history that it was founded as an authoritarian nation where only the landed ruling class had the right to vote. All expansion of rights has been done through civil protest.
It has surprised the world that the U.S. could slip so quickly into
authoritarianism. But I have come to see that I had a lack of
understanding of U.S. political history. Half the nation has always been a single party authoritarian state where private militias do the dirty work and the public law enforcement covers it up. You only have to read the details of the Ahmaud Arbery case to understand how it (still) works. It never occured to the three guys that did his murder that they would be held accountable. In their world view, what they did was righteous.
Hopefully after this weekend there will be some realization that once the rule of law is gone no one is safe. Not even a blond person of Germanic descent. Which was always true in the South:
It was a sad and yet hopeful weekend. Best wishes everyone. I hope your young plants appreciate this rain. I know wet fields complicate farming!
