Oscar-winning Moonlight is a chronicle of the childhood, adolescence and burgeoning adulthood of a young, African-American, gay man growing up in a rough neighborhood of Miami. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4975722/plotsummary)
The film will be introduced by Bryan Epps, an activist, tactician and writer. He most recently served as the Executive Director of the Shabazz Center (a memorial at the site of Malcolm X's assassination). He has developed logistics for political campaigns and grassroots movements including Black Lives Matter and has created public policy serving in the administrations of Mayors Cory A. Booker and Michael R. Bloomberg.

Harvest of Empire exposes the many little-known connections between U.S. economic and military interests and migration to this country. An antidote to out-of-context political debates and media coverage, this film aims to increase solidarity with communities that are under attack by the federal government. The T. Thomas Fortune Foundation hosts a 2018 African American Read In - spotlighting radical journalist T. Thomas Fortune.
We will be reading favorite passages from a book, poem, quotes, and speeches by Fortune, with orators from the NJ Orators Group, Abby Daly from Bridge of Books Foundation, and members of the TTF Foundation.
Doors open at 6PM for meet and greet and some good old eats.
