Sun November 1

How can we take the movement for racial justice to the next level? How do we ensure that the powerful solidarity shown by so many in the wake of the murderous attacks on Black people leads to real change? Part of keeping the movement going is learning more about what it means to live while Black in the US. There are hidden traumas as well as myriad experiences that may not be headlines but nonetheless call for healing.
Join the Unitarian Meetinghouse's (uucmc.org) Racial Justice Task Force and the Social Action Film Series for a live program with speakers:
 Isis Ra- elder, healer, drummer, artist, and child of the Universe;
 Memone Crystian-Howard U graduate, Red Bank mother, past Director of RB Dept of Parks and Recreation, first African American woman, and youngest, president of Lunch Break Board of Directors; and
Gillian Omotoso-singer-songwriter, poet, actress, and Nigerian-American transgender woman.
Dr. Carol Penn will open the gathering with a libation ceremony, bringing history and our ancestors to the center.  (http://www.drcarolpenn.com)

Election Protection -
Since June, Indivisible and Stand Up America have assembled hundreds of voting rights, civil rights, and environmental groups across the US to be prepared to protect the results of the 2020 presidential election.  Nearly 500 events are ready to happen, if needed.
 From the site: These events are tentative and dependent upon activation of the Protect the Results coalition if Trump takes action to undermine the results. For safety reasons, Protect the Results opposes any events beginning after dark or planned at ballot counting locations.

Supreme Court Hearing Civil Rights Case
Town Hall - Wednesday Nov. 4, 8 pm
This court case will be a big deal, possibly deciding whether private
entities receiving public funding can discriminate against LGBTQ folks, specific to this case, and more broadly against anyone the provider identifies as an "other."  With Barrett's appointment becomes even more frightening. A broad coalition of groups has organized a town hall to address the many issues involved.

Thanks to Judy from the UUCMC
