In order to make the second round of Controlling Rushes Without Chemicals days (see info below) as useful as possible, it would be great to have any pictures, comments or news on progress, however small (whether you attended the first meetings or not). Controlling Rushes Without Chemicals – half day workshops:

Wednesday 14th October, Cumbria (Silverlea Farm)

Wednesday 28th October, Ullapool (Strathcanaird)

Thurs 5th November, Kingussie, run with CNPA & RSPB (First meeting)

Friday 6th November, Caithness. Event kindly supported by Caithness Wetlands and Wildlife Initiative (First meeting)


Silage: What you got? Good, not so good? How to make the best use of it. Friday 13th November, 11-3pm, near Blairgowrie, Perthshire,

A practical event looking at the importance of silage analysis, understanding dry matter, intake, nutritional needs, building a diet, ultimately making best use of home grown forage and saving on inputs. Speakers include Robert Gilchrist, QMS and David Houstoun, Glenkilrie Farm. Free of charge to farmers and land managers and £40.00 plus VAT to others. Booking is required as spaces are limited. Breeding for Blight-Resistance in Organic Potatoes (incl. Tattie Tasting!), Black Isle, Monday 16th November, 11am–3pm

A half-day event looking at blight-resistant organic potato varieties, with a chance to taste the results. Host Dan Ross, and other growers have been trialling a range of varieties this season including Carolus, Athlete, Kifli, and Shona, to compare growth, blight resistance, yield, and taste. The workshop will hear about the trial, compare the results and taste the finished product. Delivered in partnership with Agrico (Bioselect UK) and the Sarvari Research Trust.
