Dear friends,

Open Streets initiatives temporarily close streets to automobiles, allowing residents to walk, bike, skate, dance and utilize the roadways in countless creative and active ways.  The first phase of construction on Weaver Street presents an opportunity to pilot the open street concept in Carrboro.  The Town of Carrboro has agreed to postpone the opening of the street to automobiles for a day.

The ball is now in the community's court.  The Carrboro Greenspace in collaboration with any other organization, groups or individuals willing to promote this event encourages community members to 1) make use of the street as a public space to walk, bike, skate, dance, do yoga, hoola-hoop, play four square, etc..  and 2) buy ice cream from maple view, make an appointment to get your hair cut with the BeeHive, or have a beer and some food at the Spotted Dog, these are all businesses that have lost up to 50% of their business during the construction and now need your support to survive!

Because the day that construction will end is unknown, notification of when the street will open will happen via phone text
