Subject: 2012 Grassroots
Conferences
Good Morning,
Hope you all enjoyed the weekend and took some time to recognize, honor or support the many the Veterans that have served our country!
Over the past several months, we have been working with the Strategic Planning Council (SPC) members to plan the 2012 Grassroots Conferences. For those who are unfamiliar: The Grassroots Conference is an annual forum which brings together a diverse group of local stakeholders throughout the three regions of North Carolina (Mountains-West, Piedmont-Central and Costal Plains-East) to discuss real issues impacting the lives of the residents of those regions of the state. The goal of the conference is to provide attendees with an opportunity to engage in a purposeful dialogue about a specific identified issue which leads to exploring and identifying real strategies and solutions that will help to improve the quality of life for the citizens of the state of North Carolina, especially limited resource populations.
The theme of the 2012 Conferences is Economic Empowerment: Entrepreneurship, Money Management and Workforce Development. The conferences will be held in each of the three regions of the state on February 21 (East—Duplin Co); March 6 (Central—Lee Co); and March 9 (West-Camp Swannanoa 4-H Center). Each conference is scheduled for 9am-3pm. A Continental Breakfast and Lunch will be served.
The tentative conference agenda includes:
ü Regional Outlook: Strengths and Impact of Economic Empowerment Efforts within the Region (Keynote)
ü Moderated Panel Discussion (Panelists: Local Leaders, Entrepreneurs and Others involved with Economic Empowerment Issues)
ü Economic Empowerment Action Plan—Round Table Group Discussions: Entrepreneurship, Money Management & Workforce Development
As in the past, we will be looking forward to your attendance and participation in your regional conference. In addition, we expect that you will promote the conference to stakeholders in your county and encourage them to attend. By now, you should have received about 10-15 “Save-the-Date” postcards which can be mailed or hand delivered to individuals or organizations that you want to invite to attend this event. You may also promote the conference using the PDF version of the postcard (attached). Given the theme of event, please make every effort to invite stakeholders that have a vested interest in the topics. Dr. Baldwin prepared this attached MS PowerPoint which provides additional details about who to invite to the conference.
Lastly, please provide a list of the organizations and or individuals you have invited using the attached file. Please submit (email) your list to Vivian Smith by Friday, December 9.
Registration details and more information will be available soon.
Thanks. Have a great week!
