As seen on front cover of Echo today, "Councillor arrested in Green Protest" and on page 3, article "Councillor arrested for blocking road" in London last Saturday at a non-violent civil resistant  Just Stop Oil protest.

Cllr Dr Felicity Rice is standing up for warm, insulated homes  and for a proper emergency response to the cost of living crisis as was done with covid. Basic needs would be universally met, bills shrunk with insulation, renewables and free public transport, paid for by the fossil fuel companies and the extremely rich.

We do not have to allow the government to worsen our lives and as a councillor she wants to stand up and say this is not ok.

"I feel I have a moral responsibility to stand up for residents and do what I can to demand the government address the cost of living crisis and insulate people's homes, focus on renewable energy and stop expanding oil and gas to protect the people in BCP and our towns."

She said that some residents may be upset at the idea of a councillor being arrested but her "motives are based on her belief all residents should have a warm home"

This is heart-warming to hear now I'm told many youngsters are getting very anxious indeed about the climate crisis and vanishing natural world.  They see very few adults standing up for a safe, clean future.

There's NO MENTION ANYWHERE of action and information about the protection of Mother Nature (nor of the avoidance of spewing carbon into our gas-chambering atmosphere) on official websites, in libraries, surgeries, schools etc.

WHY?

SILENCE as ever from most representatives.

Letters page today in the Echo:

 DEAL WITH SHELL

It seems British cycling have partnered with Shell in an eight year sponsorship arrangement.

How is it that a mis-sold product, one known for fifty years to be harmful to life on Earth, is still used for greenwashing.

It's time we were recompensed for the harm done to us all.

Subject: Jon's letters. Authorities failing to deal with genocidal policies. Media failure too.

Dear All,

I do not understand why the mis-selling of dirty energy for fifty years is going unremarked by everyone in authority.

We deserve recompense.

The BBC is suppose to inform and educate as well as entertain.

The massacre of life on this planet continues. Non-violent protestors are as ever being gas-lit.

 Jon writes relentlessly, demanding answers.

Do we think he will get any?

  All the best,

     Susan

Jon's letter to BBC Politics Live Editor:

BBC 'Politics Live' discussed the JSO protests today, but didn't think to get the voice of a JSO speaker or someone who supports dynamic protest in response to genocidal government. None of the 4 studio speakers supported the action and none seemed to be aware government is determined to inflict appalling suffering on the young.
My email to the Editor: -
Hi Ed,
How did you manage to discuss the JSO protests today without getting a speaker on the programme from that group, or someone who supports dynamic action to attempt to force government to change direction? Climate breakdown isn't like any other issue you discuss - it is about an unprecedented genocide. Government is determined to pursue policies that are killing hundreds of thousands of people every year and are on track to inflict appalling suffering upon the young. Well informed young people know there is a very real danger they may be killed by what government is doing.
Please correct your error by getting a JSO or other dynamic speaker on your next programme. You need to give a voice to people who are opposed to the complete annihilation of the low lying island states, against the destruction of agriculture throughout a swathe of climate vulnerable nations and against the destruction of critical UK infrastructure that supports civilisation.
Regards......

Jon's Letter to hypocrites

The Times and Sunday Time editors are aware of my media work so shouldn't be surprised when I spot grinding hypocrisy.
The first picture here is the Leader Comment in the Times today, attacking JSO protests. The second picture is of the Sunday Times Leader on 25 September, arguing we should all support law breaking protests in Iran, Russia and Hong Kong.
My email to the Editor: -
On 25 September The Sunday Times editorial called on people everywhere to stand up for the right to protest against injustice in Iran, Russia and Hong Kong. Today The Times editorial calls for a tough police clampdown on climate protesters in London. It seems that protest over important civil liberties is acceptable, but protest to stop the state killing the young by causing climate breakdown is not. Such hypocrisy does nothing to convince the young they ought not engage in ever more drastic forms of protest. Instead the Times and Sunday Times offer the young absolutely no sense of hope, driving people towards tactics borne out of desperation.
Yours ....

Subject: The Telegraph does not tell the truth. Corrupt complicity with global incineration.

We're drawing this horror to the attention of Representatives,

As Cllr Rice has bravely tried to do when sitting in the road as a protestor.

Given that many folk will YET AGAIN shockingly DIE OF THE COLD this winter in their freezing homes because this improvident government has failed to lead in encouraging behavioural change for a changing world.  It has also failed to help insulate homes and install safe, reliable, clean  energy systems and batteries.

  EXCESS WINTER DEATHS

New figures1 have revealed there were 29,290 excess winter deaths across England and Wales between 2019 and 2020, excluding those from Covid-19, as calls for the UK government to tackle the cold home crisis intensify. Official figures for last winter (2020/21) have yet to be released.

OFTEC, a leading trade association in the off-gas grid heating sector, has expressed concern that many of these preventable deaths could be caused by people living in cold homes, particularly in rural areas where properties are typically older, less energy efficient and harder to keep warm.

Living in cold temperatures can lead to high blood pressure and a weakened immune system, which puts older people in particular at greater risk of developing respiratory and cardiovascular disease alongside other seasonal illnesses. Public Health England2 suggest that over one-fifth (22%) of excess deaths during winter are directly linked to cold homes.

Malcolm Farrow from OFTEC, said: “As we face another winter in the midst of a global pandemic, our attention is rightly placed on protecting as many people as possible from infection. We must not forget, however, that even without the impact of the coronavirus, thousands of people continue to die in avoidable circumstances because they live in a cold home.

“Experts believe that people who are older, live with long term health conditions or have lower average income are most at risk of winter illness or mortality. We have serious concerns that another cold winter, coupled with rising living costs and the ongoing risk posed by coronavirus, could make this situation much worse, as more households face a stark choice between heating and eating.”

OFTEC says that in rural areas, a disproportionate number of households live in fuel poverty, many of whom are classed as vulnerable, adding further complexity to the problem.

In England and Wales around 3.35 million households are classed as fuel poor3, which means their disposable income after energy costs puts them below the poverty line and their home has an energy efficiency (EPC) rating of band D or below.

Malcolm added: “Unfortunately, we know that many of those who are least able to afford their heating costs live in some of the most poorly insulated properties, making them much harder to heat and keep warm.

“The government needs to take action and provide more support for fuel poor households to help tackle the excess winter death crisis we are facing.

“It’s also crucial that, as the government looks to make changes to how we heat our homes to reduce carbon emissions and tackle climate change, that new green heating policies protect the vulnerable and are fair and affordable for all, regardless of where their home is or the type of property they live in.

********************************************************************************

The Conservatives in power have had twelve years to sort this out. Disgusting.

Dirty energy is harming life on Earth and such producers owe us all big time.

   Thanks Cllr Rice for caring!

We still see NO PROTECTIVE PLAN for our well-being as our only home disintegrates. Kindly put this right.  We deserve protection.  Your silence does not help us.  Intolerable lies are being permitted to deceive the public.

We are not an anti-growth coalition.  We need the King's Earth Charter for Nature, People and Planet. Growing the protective world of nature will help guard from climate collapse and should be your top priority if you want the world to stay habitable.

Humans are being annihilated along with many species.

It's deeply shocking how disrespected are the scientists' appalling warnings and the hypocritical ignoring of Her Majesty's concern for global well-being at COP 26.  Nor do we hear about the King's Terra Carta.

No caring answer is received from very many phone-calls, emails, nor representations to authorities who have no solutions nor guidance on their websites nor Facebook page.  There's nothing in the libraries, in schools, in waiting rooms.  People need to know how they can take preventative measures to avoid the worst. Why are you still in place if you do not represent us?

Those in power now will be held accountable to the next hungry generation.

  Yours sincerely,

  Susan Chapman;   usual address

 Jon on Facebook says:

I regularly criticise the hard-right press for suppressing the most alarming news on climate breakdown. In particular they fail to report from the frontline of climate breakdown, where the world's poorest people are being killed by wealthy western lifestyles.
But yesterday the Telegraph did go back to Pakistan and report on the ongoing suffering. Seven pages were allocated in the Telegraph magazine (which is why I was late spotting it).
The Telegraph tells the story of the suffering by simply reporting on what happened to 5 families. It is desperately sad material. But, there's a catch with the way the Telegraph reports this. It describes this as "a devastating natural disaster' without a single word said about climate change.
The Telegraph shields its readers from the facts about how the warmer ocean and atmosphere made the rain around 20% worse. The paper doesn't report on the numbers now being killed by the increased spread of disease and it doesn't explain to readers what the prospects are for people in this region in the future.
The material is heart-rending but it isn't Truth Telling.

Jon on Facebook highlighting media complicity with incineration

Yesterday the right-wing press was mainly focused on the slight chance of blackouts this winter. As well at the headlines pictured here, there is a stack of material within most papers on energy policy, with The Mail bizarrely attacking renewable technologies (see comments below) and The Sun attacking JSO for recent protests.
But they continue to censor crucial news that everyone ought to have the right to hear. The papers continue to suppress reports on the implications of recent devastating tropical storms and they won't report on the significance of the emerging megadrought in the western USA. Worse, the papers won't report on the evidence hundreds of thousands of the poorest people in the Horn of Africa are being killed by wealthy western lifestyles. This is ground zero for climate collapse.
Turning to the UK, while the Telegraph did print a picture of a JSO action yesterday,  none of the papers were willing to report on the acquittal of an Insulate Britain protester. The decision by the Judge yesterday is crucial, everyone needs to understand this -  the Judge said that sitting in the M25 for 30 minutes was a proportionate response to mass loss of life caused by climate breakdown.
But the right-wing press remain determined to hide these Truths from the public, manipulating the gullible into the belief that those trying to protect the young from climate breakdown are the criminals.

Dear BCP Council,

 Copying in the police.

Fresh from the coroner's court we've heard how our family member was multiply failed and is now no longer with us. Our many warnings were ignored by the Powers-That-Be. There have been tears in the witness stand. Too late.

Parallel warnings about the survival of our species are disgracefully being ignored by our government.

Please BCP Council put in place a protective programme that respects planetary boundaries and the well-being of life on Earth before it is too late. Carbon emissions continue to dangerously rise 📈

Sadly the MPs I've heard on TV this week seem keen to race towards destruction as fast as possible. Moving On Up 🎶🎵  tells the grim, deadly  story of Charles David Kelling's iconic carbon graph.

Disrespect for the natural world is NOT in King Charles' Terra Carta/Earth Charter to which BCP has been signed up for many years.

Kindly protect us all, on websites, in libraries and schools from the complete insanity of current policies. Kindly advise for zero carbon and no- waste projects so we are able to Salvage and Survive.

Deluded leaders are trying to lead us into the hell of grief, loss and irreparable damage.  Fossil fuelled pied-pipers are telling untruths.

Shockingly, Suella Braverman  has made an inflammatory, untruthful assertion about those of us who are asking governance to clean up its act.  Au contraire Ms Braverman, I respect the police, they are copied in.   I request the police to please arrest this genocidal government before we are toast.

The Climate Genocide Act Now group asked for this at 13 police stations on 20.11.19 (anniversary of the Nuremberg Trials) . Our dossier was accepted at Bournemouth Police Station on that date.

We await action so harvests will be protected.

Speedy decarbonisation from carbon-emitting countries is keenly awaited by Pakistan and other unlucky nations suffering as a result of our carbonic choices.

Please tell us all BCP Council how we can get involved in planetarily-protective campaigns to protect living systems so we survive the  vanishing breadbaskets and climate migrations being forecast.

Climate scientists and wildlife groups are aghast at the current premier's mad growth mantra. She is tearing up the protective laws set in place by people who care about us. Many of us have been begging for a future that includes dinners and shoes for decades!

How disrespectful to the next generation that the woman who advises the King not to speak at COP27 seems to be environmentally clueless. Does she know that Greenpeace salvaged the health of the oceans and our oxygen when they bravely demanded the end to whaling?  Does she care that Margaret Thatcher was concerned we shouldn't incinerate ourselves on an overheating planet?  Does she care that Mrs Thatcher wanted justice for poorer nations at the time of the signing of the Montreal Protocol 1987 when dangerous CFC mistakes had been made?

Chief Scientific Adviser Sir Patrick Vallance knows the truth; so where is his protective advice on websites and literature in our conurbation?

Where's the King's Terra Carta?  The Queen wanted action at COP 26 but those alleging sadness at her demise are apparently not interested in her wishes for planetary well-being.

We need GREEN growth and the restorative cleansing power of  a vibrant, healthy Mother Nature.  Not this gas-chambering of our home planet in an incendiary race to annihilation.  416 parts per million CO2 and rising is very dangerous indeed. The public need to know how to protect themselves as best they can.

The natural world is being annihilated and we are burning our only home to a crisp. But the politics of Broadmoor; investing in more oil and gas is wasting our money and killing us. These policies are presented as a solution. This is utter cretinous stupidity. We should not be using fossil fuels.

Our home has solar and batteries and we've changed the way we do things so others won't be killed. Visitors are welcome by arrangement. Our garden is wildlife friendly; no poisons but very fruitful and full of life.

Planet Earth has become a crime scene as deluded politicians add fuel to the Grenfelling of the natural world.

This letter from me appeared as the headline in yesterday's Echo:

WE'RE DELUDED

I've seen at close hand how a terminally ill patient can convince themself they were misdiagnosed.

This delusional fantasy seems to be happening to our species as we fail to act on the memo about accelerating damage and loss of prospects. IFM investors are warned they can't stock-pick their way out of systemic risks like climate change. Vicars are among those being arrested for blocking the Kingsbury Oil Terminal saying the government has us on the road to hell. They can't stand by and watch their grandchildren's future being destroyed.

I see no Public Information Programme from local nor national governance advising damage limitation and behavioural change. There is nothing on official websites, in libraries nor in any literature. No school information about carbon reduction nor resource management as systems fail.

Recent Echo letters reflect woeful environmental ignorance about the means to retain a habitable planet. We read (Echo 16.9.22) that the manager at Portland Bill Observatory is "baffled" by lack of urgency from authorities over dead birds on the beaches.

Sadly this lack of urgency is no surprise to campaigners trying in vain for decades to wake everyone up over the dire prospects of a failing biosphere. Ms Truss is 280 million years too late for fracking fields as much of that methanous gas has already leaked away. And most people aren't keen on cracked homes, earthquakes and more overheating.

Perhaps Mr Gigafactory Musk is hoping to find a few Martians who can convince our leaders to pay attention to the cautionary tale of the Venusians!

  Susan Chapman

Note from a colleague:

Bringing this back to Dorset (& others) being "earmarked to be growth zone" which could mean that Keith Barnham's GIFTS (Get It From The Sun)
could bring us to Energy Security for Dorset (& others?) by 2025 - & meet IPCC Carbon Emissions reduction deadlines - albeit we/HMG/
everyone needs to remember to ensure that "growth" is in-line with the UN's 2015 Sustainable Development Goals so please note

The Social Canteen Community Meals

With support from Dorset Community Foundation and the BCP Food Support Fund The Social Canteen pilot project launches in Boscombe this October half term.  The Social Canteen is an inviting, inclusive and community focused space to share a good meal, save time, save money AND reduce waste!

In this time of food insecurity, high energy prices and isolation, it makes sense to eat together.  Eating together has also been shown to improve our mental health - the more often we eat with others, the more likely we are to feel happy and satisfied with our lives
The Social Canteen is for EVERYONE, irrespective of background or social situation.  Come as you are.  Bring your family, friends or neighbours or just bring yourself – either way you can be sure of a warm welcome.  Eating together also has the added bonus of reducing waste caused by cooking alone.  The Social Canteen chefs will produce delicious meals out of surplus foods and garden gluts from our local area, meaning we also intercept food that would otherwise go in the bin!
