What is Fracking and why should we be concerned? Weds 29th May 7:30pm
TRANSITION TOWN CHRISTCHURCH MAY EVENT
WEDNESDAY 29 MAY, at Druitt Hall, off High Street, Christchurch (by Library) BH23 1 AB .
Fracking is a process used to extract gas, locked in shale rocks, by injecting a mixture of chemicals, sand and water deep underground at high pressure. It poses risks to the environment, communities and climate change. Watch the Oscar nominated documentary on Fracking, “Gaslands†, which shows the situation in the USA-- then consider the situation in the UK.
Drilling in Lancashire has been associated with earthquakes and many scientists are concerned about pollution of groundwater. The geology of Dorset, rich in oil shale, is likely to contain shale gas and licences have been issued to a number of companies along the Dorset coast….coming to a location near you?
