Laws that protect us all from toxic chemicals and keep wildlife safe from pollution could soon be ripped up if a senior Government Minister gets his way.
According to reports, Oliver Letwin MP is considering scrapping all green safeguards and replacing them with a single 50-page document.
This would mean your protection from pollution - everything from asbestos in the air to industrial waste in rivers - could be dangerously simplified.
Together we need to send him a clear message before his plans are scrutinised by MPs at the end of February: back off our protection from pollution.
All the best,
Ollie
PS. Over 12,000 of you signed our Director's letter to David Cameron demanding that he helps fix the solar industry. Thank you. We'll let you know as soon as he responds.

Hi Theresa

Before I register an objection to anything I like to know something about what I am objecting to.    This may be another obnoxious example of the right wing mentality to do away with as much regulation as possible but until I can be sure of this I do not feel able to add my name at this stage.   Is there any further information available that makes the case that the this reduction in regulation is intended to actually strengthen the existing powers.   I cannot imagine that any sane person would suggest reducing what currently exists when the number one crime that homo sapiens is perpetrating is the wholesale pollution of the planet.

Kind regards, Colin

Hi,

In response to Colin's excellent point, here is a link to the original article which has prompted this call to action from FoE.

Cheers,
Theresa

Hi Theresa

Thank you very much for the additonal information, it certainly does appear that unimpeded thrust for economic growth despite the fact that it is this very activity that is causing such devastating pollution of the planet.   I shall certainly support the FoE petition but I have to say I feel the time has come for much stronger action than just petitioning, these right-wingers (including climate change deniers) have to be shown up for the danger they pose, not only to future generations but to the present as well.

Thanks Theresa, Colin,

Have sent edited version using link complaining about Letwin to my own MP.  What a loser!  Pete Barker & I took the filthy coal campaign to Mr Letwin (our campaign was in Dorchester for Greenpeace) who more or less said we need to have energy, that was his main priority  (bad luck if it's dirty)

Yes but if ever there was a politician that fulfilled the ‘smug I know so much better than you and believe that I have a mandate to rule’ stereotype then I feel that Letwin broke the mould – his glowering at the Dorchester meeting was something to be seen,
