Hi All
I'm forwarding this request. Any questions please speak to Katrina.
My name is Katrina and I'm a founding member of Crystal Palace
Transition Town in south east London as well as the founder
ofwww.localskillswap.com
I recently started following you on Twitter and as I am currently
trying to grow
localskillswap.com and expand the membership across the
UK, I was wondering if you would be interested in starting a
localskillswap group to support your Transition initiative? It is
almost effortless to start a group (it's free, all you do is register
as a member then submit the names of 6 people who would be interested
in joining the new group) and then you would have a resource at your
fingertips which you could use to monitor and tap into skill swapping
activities in your area.
I started
www.localskillswap.com in 2009 and there are now over 400
members. I started the website as I couldn't find a (fast) way of
finding people in my local area who I could join forces with to swap
skills and get things done for free. I wanted to have a resource where
I could flag my skills for others to see as well as search my local
area for people I might want to swap with. So I developed
www.localskillswap.com
and it now provides the following facility:
- you can reference the skills directory of members in your local area
- you look at individual member profiles
- you can approach members directly to see if they will swap skills
with you or you can post "adverts" on the local home page
- you can ask and answer local knowledge questions
- you can use the website as a reference for like-minded trades people
(i.e., those with an interest in the community)
- you can use the website to promote yourself and your skills
- you can swap skills and get things done for free without leaving
your neighbourhood!
In my experience, it takes a critical mass of around 30 members for a
group's members to start swapping, so a Bedford group would definitely
need some local encouragement once started. If you were interested,
perhaps you could put a link on your website to mine, then I would
reciprocate by putting an advert for your website on my website, so
that if any new members came to my website first, they would be able
to link to yours, thus we could work together to promote each other.
In any case, I'd be very grateful if you would let me know if a new
group would be of interest to you, it would be fantastic if we could
work together in this virtual way.
Kind regards,
Katrina
