Hi Shane

Hope things are going well with Transition Bedford. Sorry we never
got
a chance to meet when I visited on my zero carbon journey from
Wales to
Copenhagen last autumn.

As I'm sure you know, we didn't get a deal at Copenhagen, so this
year
I've come up with another campaigning idea, a zero carbon world
concert
for a zero carbon world, a series of events all over the world to
prove
to the politicians that we can have zero carbon leisure even now

www.zerocarbonconcert.org

The concerts will take place all over the world on the weekend
just
before the COP - 27/28 Nov, but preparations can begin on 10/10/10
as
part of the Global Work Party organised by 350 and 10:210 ,
joining thousands of other events world wide . I was impressed
with
Transition Bedford when I visited last year, and so I hope you
will be
able to hold an event there.

As well as organising events, we are collaborating together to
solve the
practical problems of putting on a zero carbon event, pooling our
ideas
using the website - where you can make comments at the bottom of
the
page 'Organise a concert' or by joining the discussion list (email
zero-carbon-c...@lists.zzero.org with subject
SUBSCRIBE). One
of the problems which is proving particularly tricky to solve is
getting
the concerts onto the internet in a zero carbon fashion (of course
the
internet itself emits vast quantities of carbon, and we can't do
anything about that, but at least we can try and upload things
without
causing any emissions).

If you have any further questions please email me or just give me
a
ring. Holding a truly zero carbon event which includes all aspects
including transport to the venue could be a bit daunting, but we
don't
expect everyone everywhere will meet that exacting standard (and
we're
counting public transport, which will be running anyway so won't
generate any *extra* carbon, as zero) but we will try our best,
and I'm
sure will do enough to prove that a zero carbon world is possible,
if
only we had the political will.

Kind regards

Chris Keene

Hi All

It would be fabulous is we could bring this to Bedford.  Bedford Park makes an excellent music venue.  I once saw the Jules Holland Rythm and Blues band in Bedford Park.  It was amazing how much room there seemed to be.  Indeed, Bedford Park is a little bit like Dr. Who's Tardis.  Put a Rock Concert in the middle of Bedford Park and it grows to accomodate it.

Do we have any entrapreneurs in our midst, people who know how to book parks as music venues and persuade bands to appear for nothing, in order to help a good cause?

Kind Regards

Richard
