Sir

I was very pleased to see an article in the Sunday 25 September edition of your newspaper, reporting on a proposal for a huge wind turbine in the Stewartby area.  The article in question appears under the heading:

Landfill site may be home to huge wind turbine

Those readers of your newspaper who are aware of my implacable opposition to the proposed Covanta incinerator in Stewartby may think I would also be proposed to the idea of a huge windmill in the area.  This is not so.

I heartily approve of the idea of placing a Windmill in Stewartby.  In my view, a windmill generating electricity, is an excellent idea.  It is a clean, modern technology for creating clean energy.  What is more it will not be unsightly and it will be completely in  keeping with the ethose of the wonderful Millenium Country Park.  In other words it will make sound good use of the resources of this area in an ecologically sane and sensible manner.

I welcome this windmill.  My philosophy on the subject can be summarised in these few brief words:

"Windmill good, incinerator bad".

I look foward to hearing of the completion of the proposed windmill.  I further look forward to being able to see it in action.  I must confess, however, that I do not look forward to the creation of the windmill nearly as much as I long to hear of the death, beyond all hope of recovery, of the dreadful plans for a Covanta incinerator in Stewartby.

Yours sincerely

Richard Gillard
