Since TRANSIMS Studio is written in Python, it is the same download for all platforms, not just for 32-bit and 64-bit but also Windows and Linux. Here is the link:

Hi John,

Does TRANSIMS Studio work on Linux? The sourceforge website seems only have Windows version. Thanks.

The only downloadable is a Windows executable. However, unless things have changed, the software itself runs fine on Linux (to be clear, you must be using a graphical environment however). The way to obtain it for Linux is to perform an SVN checkout on the source code. This is easy to do, if you haven't done it before. You need to have the "svn" package installed for your Linux distribution, and the command to use to perform a checkout is found at the top of all the "Code" pages on the Sourceforge site for this project. Just copy and paste into your terminal.

Hi John, Zhao,

It’s a long time ago that I worked on TRANSIMS Studio itself. I just don’t remember whether the Linux version runs on any other Linux system, or if it has to run on the TRACC cluster. I know I have a lot of cluster-specific stuff in there, I just don’t remember whether this is all properly done with a lot of “if” statements or not. This includes job submission to cluster queues and much more.

To successfully run this under Linux, it is also important to install all the modules that Studio uses. This includes at the very least wxPython, and probably a few more.

Unless somebody has successfully run it on his own Linux system, I would not recommend using it that way at this time. If it has to run on Linux, you could give it a try.

I would also strongly advise against checking it out from SVN. This is where the software is being developed, and you will end up with a version that has newer features, but also requires a million more dependencies, some of which are only available under Windows. It will not work under Linux.

Rather, download the tarball of the latest version. It’s right there on the sourceforge web site together with the Windows installers. This would be a clean version as of the time of releasing the latest version to the public.

Nevertheless, if you have a choice, run it on Windows. I can’t help you getting it running under Linux.

Best regards

Hubert
