Comment(by korki):
Nice Idea! Would you like help us visualize it by creating a mockup of the
data collection and the data presentation? (ie http://balsamiq.com/ for a
mockup)

Comment(by chrysn):
balsamiq requires flash which i don't have installed, but gimp to the
rescue! (see attachment.)
in editing mode, there should always be one empty row so the user can add
an url. the url-type should be pre-selected with the first not-yet-used
option (website, blog, twitter, etc), although duplicates might be
allowed. some url types can have javascript auto-detection so when you
paste an url, the appropriate type is selected; this can also be used for
validation. (musicbrainz has this very useful feature -- you relate an
album to an url, paste the wikipedia address, and it automatically chooses
the predicate "has wikipedia page at"; for amazon asin, they even do
normalization, although that might go too far here.)
data presentation in the profile page would not be visibly different from
the current state, as unused records are not shown now either.

Comment(by korki):
hmmm I guess there should also be an add field or something?

Comment(by chrysn):
an add field is not necessary if a new field pops up automatically as soon
as the last empty field is filled in. for non-javascript-capable clients,
an "add" button wouldn't work either; for them, there could be a note that
they should use the empty field and submit the form to get a new empty
field. (don't know how much js is required for profile editing so far)

Ok now the picture is clearer and I like it even more. But before rushing
in and doing it lets see what the other guyz think about it :)
It seems to me an easy task

* status: new => closed

Comment:
There hasn't been any actual interest in this for a long time and I guess
it's a really minor issue so I'm closing this as a wontfix. If it comes up
again in the future, we could reconsider.
