Angela van der Kloof shares her three decades of experience teaching cycling to adults, and
how to do so even in times of physical distancing.
Mobycon Webinar Series: Teaching an adult to ride (COVID-19 Proof)
We have been encouraged to see the number of people on bikes increasing this spring in
many places in the world. At the same time, we know that not every adult has had the
opportunity to learn to master the bicycle. So, with the summer holiday in full swing and many
people staying home, we hope that this session in our webinar series, Teaching an Adult to
Ride (COVID-19 Proof), encourages people to teach an adult to ride a bike!
This webinar will be presented on Wednesday, July 22nd at 19:00 CEST / 13:00 EST by our
strategic advisor Angela van der Kloof, who started her career in the mobility sector 3 decades
ago by volunteering to teach migrant women in the Netherlands to cycle. Moderation is in the
hands of Melissa Bruntlett, our communications specialist.
Participants will be led through the ‘Get on your Bike!’ teaching method that Angela
developed in co-creation with participants of bicycle lessons in the Netherlands. It is focused
on teaching complete beginners and includes tips about which materials to use, teaching styles
and how to deal with barriers that adult learners face. The teaching method does not require
physical closeness, nor specific knowledge about bicycling. When you’re motivated to teach
someone to bike this summer, and you have a good portion of patience and positivity, this
webinar is for you!
