I see you mentioned two different inReach models -- the inReach Explorer+ and the inReach SE+. If you have the inReach Explorer+, that model does feature mapping, however, no nautical charts are offered. For more information about the map types that are offered on the inReach Explorer+, reference the article, Preloaded Map Coverage for inReach Explorer+.
Although nautical charts are not available for the Explorer+ device itself, NOAA charts are available in the Earthmate mobile app. The app is free. It must be paired with an iR device, and you must be logged into an account with an active subscription. Obviously, this does require the use of the phone in addition to the device itself.
Thank you for this information regarding the NOAA charts for Earthmate mobile app. I've attempted to research this further and I've not been successful obtaining more information on how to accomplish this task. Do you have a link or more information you would be willing to share? Thank for your consideration and time.
I have the inReach GPSMap 86sci and cannot figure out how to get NOAA chart overlay onto the MapShare page where we set up Routes to share. I tired using the Lat/Lon coordinate feature, but the coordinates given in the app are WAY off from where they should be, so I had to estimate locations based on shore topography -- not very precise. It would be helpful to have NOAA chart overlay to help create a route to share.

Water charts change less frequently as fewer agencies record data for water charts. If errors display on the chart, it's time to update to the latest chart. Report chart errors, missing data, or new features with position coordinates helps improve charts and aids in making these changes sooner rather than later. The Marine Cartography Error Report allows the user to notify Garmin's cartography team; provide as much detail as possible when reporting an error, coordinate positions, and screenshots of the chart in the area of the concern are valuable information in these reports.
Do not remove the micro/SD card before Garmin Express gives this message. If the micro/SD card is removed prematurely, Garmin Express will stop the update and give an error message. Refer to the Support Center for Garmin Express troubleshooting steps
2 Some chartplotters may have not enough internal memory to copy the chart update from the micro/SD card. If this is the case, you must keep the micro/SD card inside the chartplotter in order to use the chart.
Sub-folders may be visible depending on the information that was saved to the micro/SD card from the Garmin chartplotter. Every user has different needs and configurations so as a result each micro/SD card may have different sub-folders showing (See the images below: Example of Garmin Parent and Example Sub-folder files)
Garmin does not recommend copying, moving, or modifying sub-folders on the original micro/SD card or copy/paste data to another micro/SD cards. Users do so at their own risk. The exception to this is Quickdraw Contours. See Quickdraw Contours below for more information
The easiest way to move "Waypoints, Tracks, Routes, and other User data" from a micro/SD to another micro/SD card is to do it using the Garmin chartplotter. See Backing up, Restoring, and Transferring Marine User Data to accomplish that task
These files are not locked to the micro/SD card or the device they were recorded on in any way. You could copy and paste these files to another SD card if you wanted to share with a friend or get them running on another boat. This would be preferred for the boater that would like to share their quickdraw surveys privately with a friend without uploading to the community. Or someone that has to switch micro/SD card.
Downloadable charts can be purchased for Garmin chartplotters, supplementing them with charts of areas not included in the base model and in some cases, additional features for an area already covered.
NOTE: Installing charts requires ActiveCaptain to download large files. Regular data limits or charges from the mobile service provider apply. Contact the service provider for more information about data limits or charges.
ActiveCaptain can be used to install charts on a mobile device which can then be transferred wirelessly to a micro/SD card of up to 1TB* capacity in a compatible chartplotter. Due to download and transfer time, possible space limitations on the mobile device, and possible issues with data limits, it is recommended that ActiveCaptain be used to install smaller portions of a chart at a time.
Garmin Express is a computer application used to register, update, and manage devices on a Garmin account. Before charts can be downloaded in Garmin Express, a vessel must first be created. See Creating and Deleting Vessels in Garmin Express for details.
The Lite, Standard, Heli, Standard + Garmin FliteCharts, and Heli + Garmin FliteCharts packages can bepurchased and downloaded from the flyGarmin website. Complete PilotPak pricing and coverage area informationcan be found for your aircraft on flyGarmin as well. If you haven't purchased databases from Garmin before, you may need to create a free Garmin account, set up your aircraft and add yourGarmin avionics to it. Once you have purchased a PilotPak, you may be asked to "redeem your PilotPak" tofinalize database regionselection. From there, you will be ready to download and install your databases.

This plan lets you purchase rights for Navionics cartography content and features that users can access directly through your app. You bring the embedded product to the customer through your app, manage it and monetize it with no direct end-user connection from Garmin.
For cruising, fishing, sailing, diving and other recreational marine activities, the Navionics mobile SDK provides valuable cartography and content for developers to integrate within their mobile device apps. Here are a few examples:
Offering a comprehensive cartography resource for offshore and inland boaters, nautical chart lets users study port plans and safety-depth contours, identify tides and currents, and locate navaids, marine services and much more.
These maps feature extraordinary HD bottom contour detail enhanced by millions of boater-contributed sonar logs. SonarChart mapping is ideal for locating fishing areas and providing navigational awareness of shallow waters.
Knowing what conditions to expect before heading out on the water is crucial for a successful voyage. This content can help users gauge how the movement of tides and currents may affect their navigation planning.
Navionics charts are constantly being enhanced with new and amended content from official hydrographic sources, public and private surveys and millions of contributions from boaters. Thousands of updates are made to chart layers every day.
New maps are only compatible with the device for the respective target group. NT maps with lane assist guides and traffic informationonly work on Garmin nvi devices, whereas the very detailed and colourful topographic maps are meant for use in outdoor devices. However, Bluechart G2 Vision only works in combinationwith marine devices. All sea maps, either traditional Bluechart, G2 or G2 Vision, work without TYPE files, as these do not display particularly detailed or multi-coloured images on shore. The Bluechart version does not offer green meadows, brown fields or even tree symbols in a forest. However, outdoor devices were designed to be used in a car or on a boat as well. For this reason, a partial support for NT and Bluechart (G2) was implemented. Unfortunately, they did not implement lane assist guides or Bluechart Vision.
