Hi all,

This google group is more convenient than serene for discussion,
mainly because it has the RSS feed option, I'll probably be more
reactive now ;-)

::Boom

I am just coming back from Boom Festival, which is dedicating an
evergrowing effort to Conferences, Workshops, Discussion Panels,
Healing....

I was working on shifts at Kosmicare "Psychedelic Crisis Emergency"
Sanctuary, did a short VJ set but most interesting I took part to a
discussion panel on Trance Culture (more details can be found here :
http://www.edgecentral.net/boom08trancepanel.htm ). It was a really
stimulating environment and the other speakers researches are really
worth knowing, I just invited one of them (Bel) to join the
googlegroup and share her interests. Psychedelic trance party lovers
being also skilled researchers gives a great combination (most of the
people I worked with at the sanctuary were that type as well)

I also had the pleasure to give a full talk and briefly introduced the
work of the TRF to the audience in my conclusion. (More details on my
talk at http://www.boomfestival.org/boom2008/arts_culture/workshops.php
look for the talk called Trance & the Embodied Mind )

::Psychedelic Information Theory

I am following very closely the relationship between consciousness
research (particularly oscillatory theories) and psychedelic research,
as well as I have a special interest in hallucinations (I organize an
annual scientific symposium on the topic). So I have been really
delighted by the work of James Kent from Tripzine / Dosenation, who is
in the process of writing the http://tripzine.com/pit/ . And recently
I read a review he wrote on hallucinogens induced hallucination and I
have to say he is more clairvoyant that many established researchers.
Sensory gating and thalamo-cortical loops have a lot to do with trance
in my opinion. You can find his review here :
http://www.tripzine.com/pit/pdf/multi-state-theory.PDF

I am really open for discussion on these topics

Cheers and... Boom ;-)

hi Alex and trance research,

thanks for the introduction;)

i would like to elaborate on "Trance - Cultural Evolution", which is
my baby for some years now.
I'm a theoretician of philosophy of science, focusing my research on
Evolution of altered mind states
invoked with techniques of dance and music and encompass large variety
of spiritual and symbolic backgrounds.

The theory attempts to unify these phenomena from an evolutionary
point of view and account for their presistant re/occurance
in the vast majority of human cultures.

I work with a recent evolutionary theory by Eva Jablonka & Marion Lamb
(Evolution in Four Dimentions, 2005),
which finally and formally acknowleges that evolutionary/hereditary
information flows on other dimensions besides the genetic one
(a fact that Terrence Mckenna noticed more then a dedcade ago). e.g.
the epigenetic dimesion (cell/body), the behaviour dimesion, and the
human specific symbolic dimension (language/culture). According to
this evolutionary model, as new ways of transmitting inormation rised
they've changed the role/function/importance of previously existing
once,
it also acknowleges the possible interactions between those
dimensions.

Based on this multidimesional model I suggest designing and conducting
a 4 dimesional evolutionary/comparative research,
that would first account for the evolution of trance phenomena within
each dimenson and then account for the interactions between them.
i suggest starting the alignment from the cultural/symbolic dimension
since the information there is most diverse and has the highiest
change rate,
i hypothize that altered mind stated act as a cultural "transposible
elements", that are able to jump from one cultural concept to
another. To insert themselves into any cultural nische that is ready to
accept it, preconditioned, of course by the "hardware and the
software" of our genes, nervous and behaviour systems (the evolutionary
mechanism responsible for trance staes in those are to be inferred in
the course of this research. For example we could trace the
evolutionary origins of the 5-2T 2a receptor discussed in the
"psichedelic information" theory, at the genetic level.)

I have few more research proposals and ideas in the papers i've
written (if u wanna read...just say and i'll beam it up right away),
but i'm looking for the ideas of YOU speicialists in your fields to
design and conduct this project with me.

i'm also looking for an academic framework/teacher that can guide me
in writing this theory...i'm open for any kind of suggestions.

discussions and criticism are most welcome too ;)

much love and magic
b

p.s. i want to add some links, but i don't have such a possibility
here (how to??).
