Tip: If you change your recovery phone or email, Google may still offer to send verification codes to your previous recovery phone number or email address for 7 days. If someone starts to use your account without your permission, this allows you to quickly secure your settings.

If we find your package or mail, we will send it to the address you provided. Please note, sometimes we cannot find missing mail items. It is also possible that your package or mail will not be recovered because it was not safe to forward.

If your mail or package included insurance, you may be able to file an insurance claim. For damaged or missing contents, we recommend filing a claim immediately, but you must file no later than 60 days from the date of mailing.

First time to have a package "lost" by USPS. Filed a search request, but if it's not found, will I be SOL-- required to reimburse the buyer?

Background:

Sent a reel-to-reel tape via media mail to a buyer in Hickory, NC. The reel case was inside a bubblewrap sleeve, sealed in a ziplock bag with the packing slip, packaged in a manila mailer. The address was printed on a mailing label, which was then taped for additional security.

Had previously sent out three others around the country with the same packaging which arrived prompty, with no issue.

The tracking info showed:

Jun-14-17, 12:03 PM, GREENSBORO 27495

Five days later, I received a form letter from USPS claiming that "an empty wrapper with your address was found in the mail..."

Someone at USPS hand cut the address label from the mailer the reel had been in-- which showed that it had been fully attached to the package and readable (and thus how it was still able to be tracked.)

But I am not sure why they didn't just send the full mailer, instead of just the label part; that might reveal if it had been pilfered by someone or torn open by accident.

As the reel tape itself was sealed in an inner ziplock with the packing slip, it makes it seem highly suspicious for the package to be merely "found empty."

It seems more likely an employee along the way saw the eBay logo on the label and opened the package, either for inspection, to verify it qualified for media mail, or for straight-up theft. Since it had already been scanned along the way, the package couldn't just "disappear" -- so it continued on its way, just as an empty mailer.

I've filed a search request with the Mail Recovery Center in Atlanta, with all documentation and pictures of the reel -- and received two letters that they were working on it.

it is very possible that it was damaged in one of the sorting machines and/or the way they move packages...they do get stuck and torn apart/ mangled beyond belief... it is possible it was that, and the item gets lost or removed and thrown away...the labele of packageing gets removed --unstuck and processed by saving what they can of the label...and thus the dead file...

and if you're thinking ,oh the item must be lying or somewhere to be matched up with my label...when they clean/fix/unclog a machine or find pieces...almost always all gets thrown away...the item has to be still in the package to be saved together....

i agree there ... media mail just isn't worth it...many times... 1st class package through ebay labels has tracking , and tends to get there better...so yes it a little more...but .... and for the most part a buyer will pay a little more in the listing , seeing 1st class/ or even priorty..... And if , like this, something happens...you have options and a better chance of things being found...etc....

Thank you for the suggestions; but for clarification: It was a heavy-weight manila mailer which had cardboard inserts to stiffen/flatten both sides, so it wasn't "lumpy." The reel was a pre-recorded rock album from the 70s, in its cardboard box, so certainly was Media Mail qualified. First Class service was not cheaper; media mail was about half of the cost.

Unfortunately, at the time, I didn't have Tyvek-type mailers on hand -- otherwise I would normally use those.

Does the tracking say dead mail? Anyway forward the bad news to buyer. I doubt that the reel will be recovered in the same condition you sent it. Ask the buyer to agree to cancel the transaction. Try to not get a defect. Bummer.

Due to the length of time that has passed since this thread began, we have locked it from future replies. If this is still an issue that warrants discussion, don't hesitate to begin a new thread here.

We completed our fieldwork before the President of the United States issued the national emergency declaration concerning the novel coronavirus disease outbreak (COVID-19) on March 13, 2020. The results of this audit do not reflect process and/or operational changes that may have occurred as a result of the pandemic.

MRC processing operations were not always effective. Specifically, items received at the MRC were not processed in a timely manner, as the MRC did not meet its seven-day acceptance processing goal from December 2017 to September 2019. We found some mail had not been processed for more than two months during our January 2020 observations. These delays occurred because of the following:

Handling these improper and unplanned workloads drove ineffective acceptance and processing operations at the MRC. These conditions were exacerbated by understaffing at the MRC during FYs 2018, 2019, and 2020. For example, the MRC had 84 clerks while it was authorized 104 as of November 2019.

During our audit, MRC management established a procedure to limit the number of trucks received daily and staffed their operation at full complement. As such, we will not make recommendations related to these issues.

Hi. I created an account on Ankiweb on 10/1/2021 and confirmed the email address from my gmail account. Today(11/1/2021) I created cards and clicked on sync button, it presents with an error that I have not confirmed my email, following which I again confirmed it. But, still I could not access the sync option. I have restarted the app twice after confirming email. Kindly help.

Once in a while, I notice some random person attempting to setup my gmail account as their "recovery" mail. I dismiss this attempt as mistyping of account name and not a deliberate effort. Whenever I get the verification request email from google titled "Email verification code: xxx" for this attempt, I just ignore it. There is also a 2nd email from google to me with the subject title "Security alert for [email protected]" which states "The recovery email for your account was changed". Though the mail says it was "changed", I think it is just a notice/alert, not a confirmation of change because the change workflow can not be completed w/ out the verification code. Examining the SMTP headers in the 2nd email, I see the following custom headers google adds which seem to indicate what I suspect (i.e. "change pending")

I'd like security experts here to weigh in on this. And if anyone believes this a deliberate effort to take over account, what does this accomplish other than the random person destroying their ability to recover their own account?

If you forget your password, setting a recovery phrase allows you to reset your password so that you can access your Proton Account. You can also (optionally) use your recovery phrase to decrypt your emails, contacts, and other encrypted data.

If you prefer not to use the same recovery method for both accessing your Proton Account and decrypting your data, you can set different recovery methods for accessing your Proton Account and decrypting your data.

A pop-up will display your 12-word recovery phrase. Write down your recovery phrase in the same order it was given to you and store it somewhere safe in case you need it in the future. You can also copy and paste it into a secure document or download a file of your phrase for safekeeping.

When you accidentally delete an email message from your mail, you can recover those items if they're still in your Deleted Items or Junk Email folder, and in some cases you can even recover items after the Deleted Items folder is emptied.
