The annual Grand Prix circus took over a lot of Melbourne's trams over the weekend with regular passengers shunned in favour of the motor heads.

The changes meant that the E class made a rare appearance in Swanston St and St Kilda Rd.

A couple of pics ...

6093 on Princes Bridge - closed to all other traffic for both the Grand Prix and the Moomba festival.

6083 a D1 and another E in St Kilda Rd outside the National Gallery of Victoria.

Mal Rowe noting that the animated bird on the plantation seems to have little respect for the passengers

Mal was not kidding about Regulars being shunned in favour of race goers. In fact all but a handful of tram routes were not affected. In fact anyone from the outer southern suburbs had to take 3 trams to get to Uni or north of Melbourne Central. Normally just one tram. And that includes Rt 1 truncated at Arts Centre.

By chance I happened to be in Melbourne at GP time so decided to just how the specials ran.

The worst deal was for the regular users of St Kilda Rd while I don’t imagine too many St Kilda Rts 12 and 96 regulars were excited by having a bus from Spencer St to their suburbs.

Anyway this video covers St Kilda Rd/Swanston St.    https://youtu.be/Hdola3YkW1I
