Went to the intersection of Elizabeth and Victoria Sts to have a look at the works currently underway (from 6 to 27 October).
Progress has been so good that it is difficult to see how it will take another two weeks to finish it. I am sure they will slow down.
Key to the attached photos:
Central 1, 2 and 3 are of the intersection of Victoria and Elizabeth Sts. The first two were taken from the SW (south side of Victoria St, west of Elizabeth), the last from the SE (also the south side of Victoria, but east of Elizabeth St).
Eliz Nth 1 is looking south down Elizabeth St, from intersection of Queensberry St (where works end).
Eliz Nth Crossover 1 & 2 are of the portable crossover, just north of Queensberry St. Route 19 trams shunt here, while Rt 59 has been diverted down Peel and William Sts, terminating in Kings Way (near City Rd).
Vic West 1, 2 and 7 show the new crossover in Victoria St, just west of Elizabeth (opposite O’Connell St). 1 and 2 are from the north side, 7 from the south.
Vic West 3, 4, 5 and 6 show Victoria St between Elizabeth and Peel Sts. 3 is from the north side looking at the Market. 4 is from a footbridge over the works looking east, 5 is from the footbridge looking west (barriers are at Peel St). 6 is looking east
from Peel St, the metal structure being the temporary footbridge I stood on to take 4 and 5.
Vic West Crossover 1 & 2 are of the temporary crossover in Victoria St, just west of Peel St (opposite Capel St). Route 57 trams shunt here.
Workers on this project appear to be colour co-ordinated. The ones carrying out construction work wear the orange-over-blue hi vis. Those that stand around in bunches talking wear white. They do not appear to do anything.
