Agni (Sanskrit: अग्न) is the Vedic and Living Ethics' "god of fire", who marks immortality and is the symbol of life. Agni is one of the highest gods in the Rigveda. In Agni Yoga it is the creative fire of the universe, the root of the "Fire of Space"; and the "psychic energy", the powers of the human mind and heart, particularly those manifesting in love, thought, and creativity.[4] In the original myth found in many Indo-European cultures Agni is a bird-like being, that brings fire from the gods to mankind. Alternatively, this messenger brings an elixir of immortality from Heaven to Earth. In the early Vedic literature, Agni primarily connotes fire as a god, reflecting the primordial powers to consume, transform and convey.[5]
The World Organisation of Culture of Health, in order to promote international relations, has established a link with the International Buddhist Meditation Centre. The anthem of WOCH (To Health via Culture) consists of four stanzas. The capital letters each of the four stanzas form the word Agni.[100][101] Another anthem by Skumin is termed "Urusvati". Helena Roerich is known as the Tara Urusvati in Agni Yoga and Roerichism. This anthem begins with the phrase, "The fire of the heart ignites Urusvati, she teaches the spirit take-off on the wings of the grace". Six more hymns have the names: "Heart", "Shambhala", "Morya", "Ur", "Agni", and "Sun".[101]
Girish Karnad's play, "The Fire and the Rain," was commissioned by the Guthrie Theater of Minneapolis, Minnesota (USA), and originally written (as are all Karnad's plays) in his mother tongue of Kannada, then translated by the author into English. It is published by Oxford University Press (1998). The play premiered at the Guthrie as planned, but a later Indian production was directed by Arjun Sajnani, who later made the film. Although most of the dialogue and incidents in the film follow the original script quite closely, large portions of it have been deleted (probably to make room for the four songs, in hopes of drawing a larger audience), and this badly hurts the coherence of the screenplay. Thus for example the themes concerningthe role of theater and actors in ancient India, of intercaste tension, and of the suffering of the manufactured rakshasa all emerge much more clearly in the written version. Interestingly, the subtitles sometimes follow Karnad's English text, substituting earthy idioms ("shit on his sacrifice," "I'm going to squeeze his balls") for the much more chaste Hindi vocabulary substituted (for reasons unknown, since Hindi has no shortage of such expressions!) in the screenplay.

When you look at the bengali movies of those times (or even these times) look for the directors, Uttam and Suchitra had many bad (in my opinion, which may differ) , say Shapmochon, even Bipasha I consider average (but that is biased since I had read the novel, and then that had affected my judgement by comparison) movies too. Ajoy Kar, Agradoot, etc few had superbly used their capabilities.
Uttam as any Bong would say is once in a history legend. Of the heroine, I flipflop between Suchitra and Sabitri with excellent movies there too Marutirtha Hinglaj (a Classic with capital C or may be all-caps), Nishipadma etc come to mind). I am not sure how many are there with subtitles. If I go for equivalence, Suchitra=Madhubala and Meena Kumari= Sabitri
