to Training, Instructional Design, and Human Performance Engineering
If you examine learning objectives (when some exist to drive the
training or performance improvement, most do not), they usually look
like this: "At the end of the training, the learner or trainee will
understand...."
Using the concepts and models of Human Performance Engineering, a
learning objective would look like this: Given one hour of self-paced
on-line instruction (prerequisite), two hours of instructor led class
with detailed demonstration, one hour of individual practice with peer
and instructor feedback, the trainee will, without error prepare the
feedwater system for normal plant start up on the simulator within one
hour. He or she will do this unassisted.
Taking this to the next level with the same instruction/classroom
system training, the trainee will prepare the feedwater system for
start-up with the introduction of two common system problems signaled
by annunciators and other system displays.
