Good morning,
I am writing to tell you about a new research study called Voice NOW!, which is a stress and health needs assessment study for transgender, genderqueer, non-binary and gender non-conforming trans people ages 18 and older who live in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. In the current political climate where trans rights are under attack, Fenway Health and Brown University, together with the Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition, are seeking to understand what life is like for trans people in MA and RI.
The study consists of two phases. In Phase 1 we will recruit 16 trans people, ages 18 and older, from MA and RI to take part in an interview about their health and experiences accessing healthcare, including primary, transgender-related, and HIV-related care. Findings from Phase 1 will be used to develop a survey. In Phase 2, we will recruit trans people who live or have recently lived in MA or RI to share their experiences by completing an online survey about their everyday lives including their health and healthcare. Findings from the study will be used in a report to educate policymakers, healthcare workers, and the broader community about the health needs and concerns of the trans community in order to safeguard legal protections and improve the health and wellbeing of trans people in MA, RI and beyond.
We are currently recruiting 16 people for the Phase 1 interviews. The interviews will take approximately 1 hour to complete and can be done over the phone or in-person at Fenway Health in Boston, MA or Brown University in Providence, RI. Those who are eligible to participate and complete the interview will receive a $25 gift card.
You may be eligible to participate in this study if you are:
q Transgender, genderqueer, non-binary, gender non-conforming, and/or have a gender identity that is different from your assigned sex at birth.
q Are age 18 or older
q Have lived in Massachusetts or Rhode Island for at least 3 months in the past year
