I wanted to quit at mile ten. My ITB was hurting so bad I could not
run. Before the end of the first loop I was struggling to walk. The
race volunteers sent me to medical before allowing me to surrendering
my bib. The medical personal advised me to spend 30 minutes rolling my
right ITB on a foam roller. With the return of some mobility, I got
back on the course. There was a lot of walking, but I finished loop
two strong. I repeated the foam roller treatment before starting loop
3 hoping to yield the same results. All in all, the race went ok. My
entire body is sore, knees are swollen, chafed in some odd places, and
I have four painful blisters.
All that and I still confess; I really, really love trail running!!!
I proved to myself that I can run through pain. Believe it or not, my
goal was 13:30. I finished 12:59:52 and that included nearly one hour
in medical.
Heartland 100, here I come!!!
