After my plea for advice on how to carry water for the 7 Sisters race (the requirement to carry water is new this year), I bought a Simple Hydration bottle, recommended by Ryan. I tested the bottle on a 2.5 hour run of Pleasant Mountain yesterday. These are my thoughts.

The bottle has an odd shape because it is designed to slip into the waistband of your running shorts in the midline of your back. My initial thoughts after doing this and before starting the run were "it feels like it's going to fall out or pull my shorts down and I don't want to be thinking about this the whole run". So I was initially very skeptical.

I forgot about the feeling after maybe 3 steps. The bottle simply never bothered me. It stayed put. It didn't bounce. It didn't chafe. I did tighten my shorts' drawstring more than usual though.

My run was 2.5 hours. The bottle does not hold enough water for a typical 2.5 hour run in the summer. It was a cool (low 50s) and cloudy day and the one bottle was sufficient, but I would have drunk more had I had more.

There is no iphone pocket or key pocket. It's just a bottle. So, how will I use it?

It's the perfect bottle for the 7 sisters trail race. Water is available on the course in gallon jugs, and I can quickly refill the bottle. So I don't need to carry any more.

I'll probably use this on 60-90 minute summer runs. Runs where I'm tempted to carry a handheld bottle but don't because it's easier not too. Maybe because it's so easy to carry, I'll carry it on 60 minute runs where I would not have previously even considered carrying water.

The company does say that 2 bottles are easy to carry. Two might be okay for a two hour summer run, but maybe not on a hot, humid day.

Finally, I bought the bottle but the company also very generously donated two bottles as prizes at our upcoming Five and Dime Trail Races on June 26 at Falmouth Community Park. Register, run fast, and win one. Or maybe I'll raffle them.
