My Garmin 305 died today before Twin Brook run. It was fine this morning while charging the battery but it failed to start prior to my run and it doesn't start while sitting on the charger either. Nothing but a blank screen.

1. Why is the 305 $100 MORE than it was 2 years ago? Did Garmin realize the 305 is a good watch and up the price?

2. Given that a 305 is $249 and the 310XT is $299, I'm tempted to buy the 310XT but a little gun shy by its performance. Any advice?

Garmin doesn't make the 305 anymore I don't think.

I'm happy with the 310.  Much longer battery life, slightly smaller, otherwise pretty similar to the 305. Also doesn't need to be attached to a cradle to download the workouts.

Did you try a reset by hitting mode and lap/reset at the same time?

That worked! I thought I had (I actually just mostly hit random combinations of buttons and then banged the watch on the table about 5 times).

Thanks. We'll see if it survived the banging...

I just bought a Suunto Ambit that has a 50 hour battery life with the GPS turned on. Its a tank of a watch but early reports are saying it is made to take a pounding. I'll give you all my impression when the wife and daughter bring it to me in 3 weeks. I'm suffering through another season of the Survivor Circus so I'll see you all in July.

Yes! I'll be back for the Scuffle, waving my machete and running in flip flops!

I just think your GPS watch was not used to going that slow.
It probably is so calibrated to "flying" that your "waddle" mode
last night threw it off.

Let Nate borrow it for a bit, bet it works fine.

I was subconsciously looking for an excuse to buy a new Garmin. It wasn't my fault - my neural connectome made me do it!

Having not run in 5 weeks I found the pace to be "brisk". Or maybe I'm just getting old.

My next GPS will be the Timex Run Trainer. Great reviews and value, especially for the price. I'm done with Garmin...their products have only gotten worse, IMO.

I have the Suunto T6 and love it. The foot pod comes in pretty close to all the runs with Katy, so not missing the GPS and the battery on this last close to 12 months.

I think you might just be smelling my socks Chuck. Let me put them in a ziplock and you can take another whiff.

I think I will take a rain check on that, especially assuming you have not changed them since landing on that dreadful island paradise.

Jim, you're talking about Hollowell right?

I could calibrate the Garmin at a 10 min/ mile pace.
