DexterMusic from the Showtime Original Series is a soundtrack album featuring music from the first season of the American television series Dexter. The album was released on August 28, 2007, on CD and download from the iTunes Store. The album was also released to music streaming services, such as Spotify.

The album contains 25 tracks over 1 hour and 4 minutes. Track 1 is the opening theme by Rolfe Kent. Tracks 2 through 11 are mostly Cuban and Latin music used during the show, with tracks 2, 6 and 9 containing narration by Michael C. Hall. Tracks 12 through 24 were written by Daniel Licht, who composed all of the show's other themes. Bonus track 25 is track 24, "Blood Theme", with Jon Licht singing over. Kent's widely praised opening theme utilises an eclectic selection of European and Asian instruments, including ukulele, piano, bouzouki, trumpets, pizzicato strings, electric piano, saz, and tambour, set to an Afro-Cuban beat. Licht's original themes are based around a mixture of Latin and electronic music, reflecting Dexter's warm and cold elements.[2]

The well-known "Blood Theme", played during the credits on every episode, uses a combination of piano and bassoon and bowed string instruments such as violin, viola and cello. The first measures of the "Blood Theme" were first heard in the soundtrack for the American anthology horror film H.P. Lovecraft's: Necronomicon (in "The Library, part 1" segment), also composed by Daniel Licht, before being later enriched and expanded for use in the TV Show "Dexter".[3] Most composings of the original soundtrack have a similar intention and instrumentation, features a common use of harp, strings, piano and a bright variety of percussion sounds.

am I the only one who's noticed the excessive use of the song that plays on the twillight dvd's menu screen in the dexter series?? it drives me crazy since my husband has been making me watch the seasons with him!

The lady who wrote the Twilight soundtrack is the writer for Dexter, so that's probably why it's happening. I think her name is Melissa Rosenberg. If you look close, you'll also see that Astor has Twilight posters up in her room as well.

An important part of the Showtime television series DEXTER is the music. Without it to set each appropriate mood, fans would be watching something not nearly as captivating as it has been for the past eight seasons.

There have been multiple soundtracks released thus far, including Original Scores and compilations of various songs used by artists in the series. In addition to the track name, where the song can be heard in the show will be provided (to help identify the music piece when you hear it).

It should be noted that not all the music from the series, both constructed by original artist Daniel Licht or music from other artists are included on all of the soundtracks. There are still many unaccounted for themes that have yet to be released on CD.

With the introduction of Trinity to the mix, Daniel Licht has created a menacing soundtrack for this arc in the series. From the themes created specifically for Trinity to the other gorgeous masterpieces and redux of previous songs...Daniel Licht is proving that he gets better as he goes.
