hello, since this is the travel forum, here are two events worth
traveling to on the east coast for 2010. the first is one i have been
going to since the early nineties. it is the oregon ridge nature
center primitive technology weekend. located in northern baltimore
county just north of baltimore, maryland. i'll keep this short as you
can access info at
oregonridge.org primitive camping-only one
dollar, a roving bowshoot on sunday morning, two days and evenings of
great information, people, and supplies. you can camp friday and
saturday overnite into sunday afternoon. this event is worth traveling
to especially to talk to some of the flintknapping greats and see
their work. come out and get some of that great virginia soapstone.
now the second event is the first time and hopefully not the last time
that our archeology group (MCVAS) combined with the frontier culture
museum in staunton, virginia will host a primitive technology day on
saturday, july 10th. things to happen will be an atlatl workshop and
range, braintanning, artifact identification, and a presentation on
the native americans of the shenandoah valley area by james madison
university professor carole nash.
