Object All Sublime

 

As a Favor to his friend, the warden of the Ohio State Penitentiary, Bill Friel, volunteered to umpire a game between the convict team and an outside club.  Trouble cropped up immediately. The crack backstop of the convicts, who was serving a life sentence, proceeded to question practically every other call.

 Friel finally blew his top. Ripping off his mask, he stepped up to the convict and roared, "One more crack out of you and out of the park you go!"

 The lifer grinned. "Thanks, mister, I've been trying to do that for twenty years!"

The Soft Sell

 Stan Landes was working a prison game. The star of the jailhouse nine was a big fellow with a mean look in his eye, and Landes decided it would be smart to soften him up.

  "What are you in for?" he asked in a friendly manner.

  "For killing a guy about twice your size," was the grim answer.
