This is an Android-only feature, and Google now prevents Qustodio from including this feature in the Qustodio app in Google Play Store. If you wish to monitor your child's calls and texts, you will need to sideload a separate version of the app downloaded directly from Qustodio's website.
This feature worked exactly as advertised once it was enabled. Qustodio is the only app we tested recently that still lets you block calls and read texts, so if this is a critical feature to you then Qustodio needs to be high up on your list.
The Lock Navigation and Lock Device settings do different things depending on the platform. Locking navigation on Windows and Macs blocks internet access and web browsers, but the lock device option means your kids won't be able to sign in to the device. On Android, locking navigation blocks most apps, except for the home screen, notification bar, and recent app lists. Children can only make outgoing emergency calls while the device is locked. For iOS devices, the lock navigation toggle is greyed out. The lock device setting hides all apps on the device.
Qustodio includes geofencing capabilities for mobile devices, a feature it calls My Places. Geofencing is simple to understand. You define a virtual boundary around a geographic place and then receive a notification when a child (or their device) leaves or enters that area. With Qustodio, you pick a place on the map, give it a name, and define how large a boundary to create around it (minimum of 350 feet).
Qustodio allows parents to monitor kids\u2019 calls, SMS messages, and iMessages. Parents must download a separate Qustodio Calls and Messages app to their Mac computer or download an app from the web onto their Android mobile device.
You can change the amount of information that you can see by going to your child\u2019s profile and choosing calls and messages in the rules menu. There, you can choose whether or not to view message content. You can also switch monitoring on or off. Keep in mind that Qustodio's monitoring features do not apply to third-party messaging apps such as Signal or WhatsApp.
As long as your child uses an Android phone, you can read their full texts with Screen Time, monitor messages sent through WhatsApp, Viber, and Kik, and see all photos your child takes, sends, and receives.
Circle also came out with an app that's now sold with Circle Home Plus, but it didn't knock our socks off. It doesn't monitor texts, emails, or social media messages and doesn't provide call logs or contact management. It's good for regulating screen time and blocking apps or content categories, though.
How can I stop calls and texts on my kids' phones at night?
I have the Secure Family app, but it doesn't stop the calls from going through. It just pauses internet access. One of my kids' friends called him at nearly 3 in the morning last night. In the old Smart Limits, it was all blocked (except for numbers that I approved, like me and his dad).
One of the reasons I gave my 11 yr old my old iPhone is because Smart Limits let me basically turn it into a glorified iPod that could call me and receive calls from me. Now she's getting calls and texts from friends at all hours of the day, along with marketing calls.
I'm going to have to switch to Verizon if I can't figure out a way to do this with AT&T. I'm not willing to have the daily power struggle of collecting their devices at night.
Location monitoring can provide you peace of mind by instantly confirming that your child arrived home or at school for the day. Unlike the home screen, notification bar, and recent app lists, locking navigation on Android disables most apps. While the device is locked, children can only make outgoing emergency calls. The lock navigation toggle is greyed out on iOS devices. All apps on the device are hidden while the device is locked.
With Qustodio, you gain insight into both incoming and outgoing calls, as well as the texts your child sends and receives. This encompasses both SMS and iMessages (on Apple devices), ensuring no facet of their digital communication goes unnoticed. All this pertinent information is easily accessible through your parent dashboard.
