E. 1999 Eternal is the second studio album by American hip hop group Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, released July 25, 1995, on Ruthless Records. The album was released four months after the death of rapper Eazy-E, the group's mentor and the executive producer of the album. Both the album and single "Tha Crossroads" are dedicated to him. Following up on the surprise success of their breakthrough single "Thuggish Ruggish Bone", it became a popular album and received positive reviews from music critics, earning praise for the group's melodic rapping style. The album title is a portmanteau of Cleveland's eastside neighborhood centering on East 99th Street and St. Clair Avenue where the group is based and the then-future year 1999.

The album sold 307,000 copies in the first week. E. 1999 Eternal became the group's best-selling album, with four million copies sold in the United States. It topped the US Billboard 200 for two consecutive weeks. The album was nominated for the inaugural Grammy Award for Best Rap Album, ultimately losing to Naughty by Nature's Poverty's Paradise at the 1996 Grammy Awards.[2] In 2015, the group toured in support of the 20th anniversary of the album, performing it in its entirety for the first time.

Retrospectively, Jason Birchmeier of AllMusic described E. 1999 Eternal as "an impressive debut full-length that dismisses any notion that the group was merely a one-hit wonder", adding that it "maintains a consistent tone, one that's menacing and somber, produced entirely by DJ U-Neek, a Los Angeles-based producer who frames the songs with dark, smoked-out G-funk beats and synth melodies."[3] The Source hailed E. 1999 Eternal as one of The Top 100 Rap Albums of 1990s.

Bone Thugs-N-Harmony's E. 1999 Eternal is one of the better selling rap albums of all time, having moved over five million units. Which surprises me because I always think of this album as my little secret. The cassette I wore out in my Walkman. The super rapid lyrics and rhyme that put Eminem and Watsky both to shame, that no one else ever talks about.

You'll see from the screenshot above of my individual song ratings that the album was reissued less than a year after being released. That's because track eight, "Tha Crossroads" (official title "Tha Crossroads (D.J. U-Neek's Mo Thug Remix)"), was originally a much darker track called, simply, "Crossroad" and was about the band's deceased friend Wallace.

But during production on E. 1999 Eternal, the band's mentor, rapper Eazy-E, passed away from complications with HIV. So the band "remixed" the song (actually re-wrote the entire song except for one single line of the verses), in tribute to Eazy-E and released the remix as a single. The remix became so overwhelmingly popular that it replaced the original track on the album just a couple months after the album was released. (Except in the UK where the remix was added on at the end of the album as track 18, and the original remains at track eight).

The remixed "Crossroads" single sold two million copies alone and became Bone's signature song. But there are plenty of other highlights on E. 1999 Eternal. The title-ish track, "East 1999" is a personal favorite of mine, and was also released as a single, though you wouldn't know it because the song is so heavily punctuated with profanity the band re-recorded or muted almost every line of the song to create a "clean version" acceptable to radio and MTV.

Bone Thugs-N-Harmony's lyrics are true to their name. Their sound and their stories are very dark. Murder and ghosts and Ouiji boards are common themes. If a particular track isn't about the bud, it's about a raid on a courthouse with grenades and other explosives, or retelling the darkest of dark tales from the streets. And as a fan of horror films and spooky books, I love every minute of these tracks. "Die Die Die" and "Mo Murder" and "Down '71 (The Getaway)" - all fantastic.

Best Pressing: Pick up any reissue CD. You'll most likely want "Tha Crossroads" over the original "Crossroad". If you want to own the original too (I personally love the original too), just grab tha "Crossroads" CD single, it's on there. Or, if you live in the UK, grab a UK copy of the 1995 reissue as you guys got both versions on the same disc. iTunes also has the 1995 reissue with the remix in place at track eight.

A collection of my favorite videogame music. Note that most of them are from games I played so I might miss some great ones from games I never played. Genesis Eternal Champions (1993) Character Bios Joe Delia

The better version IMO. Was first originally on the album "E. 1999 Eternal" when it was released, but when Eazy E passed on due to AIDS in March of 1995, the group and their producer, DJ U-Neek, decided to remake the song.

"Rise" is a song written by Andy Armer and Randy Badazz Alpert, and first recorded by trumpeter Herb Alpert. The instrumental track was included on Alpert's solo album Rise and released as a single in 1979. It reached number one on the U.S.

A playthrough of SegaSoft's 1996 beat 'em up for the Sega Saturn, Three Dirty Dwarves. Three Dirty Dwarves is one of those extremely unique, endlessly playable, and criminally-overlooked titles that Sega always has had a knack for producing.

E. 1999 Eternal was executive produced by, and dedicated to the late Eazy-E, who passed away just months before the completion of the album. Classic singles including "1st of Tha Month" and their Grammy-winning tribute to Eazy-E, "Tha Crossroads," were part of the project.

The album was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 1996 Grammy Awards, but lost out to Naughty by Nature's Poverty's Paradise. E. 1999 Eternal sold over 4 million copies and is widely regarded as a hip-hop classic.

Twenty-eight years after releasing their debut album, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony will be honored on the very same street they referenced on the project. The Cleveland group will have a street renamed after them on Aug. 11, 2023. The intersection of East 99th Street and St. Clair Avenue will be renamed "Bone Thugs-N-Harmony Way."

The event is the result of a fan petition that was started in February of 2022, which requested that a sign above East 99th Street be changed to read "Bone Thugs-N-Harmony Way" in honor of the legendary rap group.

Felicia C. Haney, owner of Beach Street Publicity, and Juan Goodwin reportedly went door-to-door in freezing temperatures to collect signatures from neighbors in support of their cause. They were able to obtain 70 percent of the signatures and present them to the Cleveland City Council. "There's nothing here that pays homage to that or to the group Bone Thugs-N-Harmony," Haney told News 5 Cleveland.

E. 1999 Eternal became the group's best-selling album, with over 5 million copies sold in the United States and 10 million worldwide. It topped the US Billboard 200 for two consecutive weeks. It was released July 25, 1995, on Ruthless Records. The album was released four months after the death of rapper Eazy-E, the group's mentor and the executive producer of the album. Both the album and single "Tha Crossroads" are dedicated to him. Following up on the surprise success of their breakthrough single "Thuggish Ruggish Bone", it became one of the most legendary hip-hop albums ever created. The album title is a portmanteau of the then-future year 1999 and Cleveland's eastside neighborhood centering around East 99th Street and St. Clair Avenue where the group is based from.
