Kazangula - Botswana / Zambia Border Crossing.

I renting a vehicle in Kasane from Bushlore (mid-May to mid-June 2026) and will cross into Zambia at Kazangula.   The vehicle will have RSA Registration.  I am most interested if anyone can relate recent experience at the border and what documentation is required.   

I have read on other Forums about a "Police Clearance Certificate" and also a "Stolen Status Clearance Slip" and a "Checkin Slip Not Stolen" one of which / or all of which is/are required by officials at boarder.     All a very unclear and I would appreciate anyone's input.

I also understand I need to purchase Zambian Third Party Insurance - can this be done at the Border ?

Hi Peter,

Bushlore will provide you with all required papers. Kazungula one-stop borderpost ist easy. You start on the left side to exit Botswana und when you are at the right side you are done.

We have been pro-active and obtained 3rd party insurance before entering the building. There is an ATM where you can get Kwacha. We paid everything ins Rand , Pula and US$.

I can add that yes Bushlore must provide the paper work. It is called a Vehicle Verification Report. Police Clearance for ZA vehicles is something else and only used when permanently exporting the vehicle.

Last time I went through, I could pay everything by credit card, even the 3rd party insurance and community levy was on a single payment. I did not need any kwacha cash.

My wife and I have used Bushlore for our last three trips crossing various borders. 

They provide all the necessary paperwork for border crossings. We have never had a problem. 

Just let them know which countries you intend to cross into.
