I´m looking for some advice regarding an upcomming trip form Rossi Pools to Shingwedzi. As I got different information regarding possible routes I hope to get some latest info here. My wife and I are travelling with a Landcruiser Camper, the currrent plan would lead to leave Rossi Pools on Sunday 25.10.2026. The original plan was to go to Shingwedzi the same day. But this border post seem to be closed on weekends and to be open only Tuesdays and Thursdays. What is the best option to go? Extending the time in Gonarezhou till Tuesday 27.10 and to use the Pafuri Sengwe Tourist Boder crossing (we will spend more than a week in both parks each), or to use Beitbridge and spend a stop over somewhere around Musina, or to cross into Mozambique and to use the Mapai ferry?

Many thanks for your support
Joerg

Good morning Joerg,

Has Gonarezhou Trust confirmed that that this "tourist border post" is open for use - they have made huge media splashes about it, but the last update I had is that it has not been put in use. Firstly because there is no border formalities available on the SA side, and then the Limpopo was in flood and they could not use the ferry. Also, from the media releases, you had to spend a night (or two) in one of the expensive lodges on the SA side, as the border crossing was located on their property I believe - but I stand to be corrected on this last option! When you book the campsites in Gonarezhou, you have to book to use this border crossing at the same time - and they will confirm if it is open or not. And yes my information is it is only open in the main tourist season, and only on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

As far as I know, you can only use the Sango border crossing into Mozambique, take the ferry across the Limpopo and then enter at Pafuri into the Kruger. I would not do that in a day.

Your alternative is Beit Bridge - but Sango/Pafuri is much nicer!

Regards/Groete

Lizette

Hi Lizette

thanks a lot for your answer. I contacted Gonarezhou and the outcome is this tourist border post is closed and they don´t know if and when it will be reopened.

So we will go via Beitbridge and will have look for an overnight stop somewhere around Musina.

Best regards
Joerg

Hallo Joerg,

You are welcome, and thank you for the update!

Just east if Musina is Tshipise hot springs, it can be a bit busy but maybe a nice option to wash off all the dust! They have chalets too, and the restaurant makes great pizza if you want a change from all the fireside cooking.

Enjoy!

Kind regards

Hi
We just did a big trip around Zim

Beitbridge is simple and easy
SA side make sure to do customs on line
It took us longer to walk to the immigration than it took to get done

Zim side all on line before you get there
4 or 5 counters , start at counter 1 simple
Cost around 50 to 80 US dollar

It really did take us longer to walk to counters than it took to do all the stamping

Bubi ( link and elephant ) just outside beitbtidge town chalets or camping
Was good and they. Did dinner for us

We stayed in Musina as well
Chalets was ok will try find name

Gonarezou is a Jem
Cheers

Hi Lizette, hi Alan,

thanks a lot for your answers and proposals. As the T4A Trip Planner and Google AI are saying that trip will be around 8h we il try to do it in a day and therefore have a day more in Kruger.

@Alan "big trip around Zim" that´s exactely what we are going to do. I would like to know more about your trip and experiences. I wil try to contact you directly.

Many thanks
Joerg
