Good day

Can anyone please assist with new info.

We want to travel from Moremi ( Third Bridge) to North Gate onto Khwai Community Camp, Savuti, Linyanti and on to Chobe.

We will be a group travelling with off road caravans. I last did this route with rooftop tents a number of years ago.

Can people who have done recently and with a caravan in tow please comment on conditions ie thick sand etc.

Looking forward to to your responses.

Kind regards

Manfred Haf

Hi Manfred -

I did this drive about 10 days ago with 4 other vehicles. I wasn’t towing, but all of the other four were towing, two off-road trailers and 2 off-road caravans.

The roads are slow and there is deep sand but no-one in our group got stuck (except briefly in the Savuti campsite!).  Our conclusion was that if you let your tyres down, keep your revs up and maintain momentum, it’s fine.  If you don’t, you can certainly get bogged down - we met a guy who got stuck overnight on the Linyati road, which is supposed to be better…

Regards
Peter

Hi Peter or anyone else in the know,

I would like to get from Khwai to Seronga, and then over the Mehombo Bridge to the west side of the pan handle.

Is there a route from Khwai to Seronga which is navigable and if so, when in the year is this navigable?  Any info would be much appreciated.

Regards,

Guy Werner

Hallo Guy, about a month ago I tried to reach Selinda by travelling east from Gudikwa to the veterinary gate - the road is very overgrown, very deep sand, and about 12km east of Gudikwa, you start getting river crossings. Friends of mine tried 3 days later and turned around not much beyond that.

Water may be lower by now, but still very wet - I would not attempt it, especially not in a single vehicle.

Regards/Groete

Thanks Lizette,

Is there any time of the year that is considered navigable in an average year? (I understand that the swamps are very full this year).

Gegards,
Guy

Hallo Guy,

August should be ok if the Delta levels are "normal" in May/June. But the track is seldom used, very overgrown with deep sand.

Kind regards
