Hi All,

We are heading to Gonarezhou in April next year and are really looking forward to the trip.

We’ll be stopping over at the Lion & Elephant Motel on our way there and back. In the park, we’ll be sticking to the northern areas and staying three nights each at Directors, Chitove, and Chilojo Cliffs.

As this will be our first trip to Zimbabwe, I would appreciate clarity on the following:

1. Vehicle requirements: What stickers or markings are needed for both the vehicle and trailer?

2. Safety equipment: Are fire extinguishers, reflective vests, and triangles compulsory?

There seems to be a lot of conflicting information online, so any first-hand experience would be greatly appreciated.

Lastly, any additional tips or advice regarding the park, routes, or general travel in Zim would also be most welcome.

Hi Reino,

Requirements are more-or-less the same for most countries, I have just done it all so I'm good for all border crossings - they have a spot in the car and the spot is always filled! While some or not needed, it is always good to have a fire extinguisher and/or reflective vest, etc. in the car anyway.

• White & Red Reflective Tape: Two small white rectangular strips on the right and left hand side of the front  bumper, and two small red square strips on the right and left hand side of the rear bumper. These strips should be honeycombed.
• If towing a trailer, two small red square strips on the right and left hand side of the rear bumper are required. If the combined length of the vehicle and trailer is more than 8 metres, a continuous yellow strip is required down both lengths of the vehicle and trailer.
• Warning Triangles (2, on metal plates)
• Fire Extinguisher
• ZA Sticker
• Safety Vests (recommended)
