Road Conditions in Damaraland?

Hi all,

Curious if anyone has any recent updates on the road conditions in Damaraland Namibia (and any flooding or river crossings to be aware of).  In about a week I plan to drive up through Damaraland from Spitzkoppe and then onward to Etosah.  Particularly interested if anyone had driven on D2612, C39, C43, or C40 in recent days.  I have a reliable 4x4 but just concerned given the recent rains.  Thank you in advance!!

Hi Matt,

It is wet up there but most rivers have subsided again and roads are accessible below Palmwag - drive slowly, lots of washaways and mud, be careful at river crossings. There is more rain coming for Namibia in the next few days so things can change quickly. They have opened sluices at the Ruacana Hydro power station so the Kunene is pushing up at the moment.

Follow the DriveNam group on Facebook, there are frequent updates there.

Thank you for the replies and information everyone, very helpful.  I saw a posting on the Pocket Guide Namibia app that the Omaruru river is not passable on D2306, as of today (the 6th), for anyone else following this thread.

Does anyone have any recent intel on river crossings in the tegion?  I have not seen anything current on Omaruru or Goantagab on FB for example.  Not sure if either are passable or still flooding.  Also curious if anyone has advice on whether it is better to cross the Omaruru via D1930 south of Uis or via D2306 at Okombahe (D1930 is more direct for me, but open to detours if it will be safer).

Join the group DriveNam on FB.  Tony Hart on this group is very knowledgeable and up to date on the latest road conditions due to rain.

What I could fount there quickly regarding the D2306:

Gert to get to Omandumba you'll have to go to Omaruru and come in via D2315.

You'll have to do D2315 VER VERY VERY slowly with a bus.

There is NO WAYS you can use D2306 Uis Okambahe to Omandumba. The low concrete bridge is gone and the river is still flowing.

D2612, I have already responded.

Might be better to get to Khorixas and get to Damara Living Museum off C39, but gain, that's going to be a very very very slow drive. Lots of wash aways.

Question though, how on earth do they expect you to do Omandumba and Damara Living Museum and still drive to Oppiekoppie?

I recently had a few 276C battery packs repacked by Batteries Unlimited in Milnerton.  They fitted higher capacity batteries than the originals.  The cost was R365 per pack (last December).

You might find someone in SW who can do that locally for you.
