Good day,
I'm in the market for a Garmin Overlander but noticed that it's discontinued. Any idea why? (My 5-year Africa maps updates are up for renewal. Was hoping to get a bundle deal. GPS with maps)
What would you say is the next best thing? Specifically, for 4x4 and overlanding.

Good morning Martin,
A few weeks ago Garmin released the new Montana 710/710i/760i - we prefer the Montana, which is a proper off-road device, to the Overlander (you correct it is no longer available) that is more similiar to a city navigator than an off-road device.

Hi all,
MY previous choice was the ZUMO XT2. Can someone answer the following:
Does the ZUMO XT2 record driven tracks and can you download those to PC after the trip?
Can you upload tracks to the ZUMO XT2 from pc and then navigate them, not auto route, just follow?

I've not used the Zumo myself, but according to the Garmin website, it does record tracks and you can share it to other devices.

There is a SL Facebook page that is very informative: https://www.facebook.com/groups/2305688819605685/. There are a few people on that page, that says they can get you a Mini with a roaming subscription - firstly beware of scammers, there are a few on that page, but people are quick to point them out! But yes, it can be done - I believe with a European account which makes the cost of purchasing the dish very high - but if you're in a rush, this is the way to go.

I use the Garmin Tread Overland which is the replacement for the Overlander.

The Tread unfortunately does not work well with our T4A maps and we do not recommend it as a device to use with T4A.
I love that big screen though!

Morning all.
I have used my Nuvi 67LM since 2015, fantastic unit. Never had an issue, provides track crumbs to record your route which can then be opened in Google Earth. Nice big touch screen, camera function as well.
I think the replacement is called the Drive?

Yes the Drive series has replaced the Nuvis. I have a (very small screen!) Nuvi42 (from 2013) and I still run it next to the Montana as a back up!

Just an FYI... Traveled from Johannesburg to Kruger, up to Botswana, Khama, Moremi, Savuti, Chobe, etc... with the Tread Overland and had no issues using T4A. Also used Google for main road driving/navigation.

Chibila is on the map. McBrides also but it is spelled wrong, Mc Bride's. Search for yhe latter, I have asked the team to I update the name.

In our data we have spelled it Mc Brides with a space between Mc and Bridges - I will check on the spelling, I expect it should be one word.
