Dear Sirs,

I'm planning a long trip through South Africa, Botswana, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

I'm stuck for the organization on the stretch between the Matusadona NP Gate and the Chizarira NP Gate.

Does anyone know if there's a campsite or somewhere I can stop for the night? Any kind of accommodation will be fine.

Is wild camping possible and safe?

Hallo Elana,

I left Tashinga in the morning, took the ferry across to Ume Croc Farm and then down to Chizarira - I arrived in the late afternoon at Chizarira reception. So it can be done in a day.

Alternatively, if you take the ferry to the Croc Farm, Tiger Bay Resort has a campsite: https://tracks4africa.co.za/listings/item/w635792/tiger-bay-resort-campsite/

The roads inside the park is in better condition as the one from Ume Croc Farm south to Siabokvu - so you may want to drive down to Chifudze where there are two campsites near the Southern entry point to Matusa - the Chifudze Transit campsite, or the Matandare Springs Exclusive campsite. 

I'm not aware of any wild camping spots here but if you are in a fix, ask at one of the villages if you may camp somewhere nearby and offer to employ a person to make fire or keep night watch as reciprocation.

Hi Elena

We did Matusadona to Chizarira end of 2023 and it was easy to do in a days drive although the Karoi Binga road was badly corrugated. And we will do it in opposite direction this year also in one day. So don't worry about.

May I ask the last thing?

I was thinking there was only an access to the Matusadona National Park, the one in the middle, west side.

There is one gate as well in the south? On the road after Matandare Springs Exclusive campsite, we can go in and go out from there?

Hallo Elana,

The southern entry point at Chifudze is the main entry point (yellow arrow) - if you have prebooked and prepaid, you can go directly to your campsite from here. Else you have to go all the way to the African Parks office at Tashinga in order to do your booking and payment, before continuing to your campsite. This access point is very close to Matandare Springs. 

In 2023 African Parks informed me that they are closing the entry point from the west (near Siakobvu village - the red cross) - there is no check point there so people were accessing the park without reporting to the Tashinga office or Chifudze rangers. So best to check with African Parks if you can enter or exit from here - if the rivers are full then the western access is cut off anyway.
