We have just completed a 23 day trip in Zambia - some 3,700 kms camping and travelling through remote areas.
I initially planned our Trip on the "Trip Planner" and down loaded the Guide App, and purchased the Africa Map which provided excellent detail as one zoomed in - on my iPhone 13. The Guide App worked at treat - easy to use, accurate and our primary means of navigation.
One particular day we were travelling from Ituba (NLNP) Camp to Mfuwe, at times the track was extremely difficult to follow with over grown elephant grass and nothing more than a foot path, also the numerous side tracks in all directions in and around the villages made things tricky. The App guided us right these situations - although, once we did drive through someone's back yard, and the lady of the house glared at me with no sign of a smile...
This particular day we had initially planned to stay at Kamukonzo Camp - but were advised that it was not yet open, with fresh private road signs and or closed. Difficult to find out the exact status. As a result we had to continue to Track & Trail Camp near Mfuwe arriving well after dark. Again the App was a life saver in the last hours drive before we reached the tared road into Mfuwe.
I found that when using the Trip Planner make sure you zoom in as far as possible to place your "Road Marker"- this will help a great deal in keeping you on the right track. I understand the Guide App is also being further developed. Having a read out of distance to go to the "Road Marker" and Lat & Long would be great.
On a topical point: the only place we were unable to get diesel was Mumbwa, otherwise no problems at all. Also we paid for all diesel by CC except in Mfuwe when their internet was not working and had to use cash.
Thanks again.
