Hi All

I’m trying to plot a route from Hobas Rest Camp to exit into SA at Oranjemund.

I’ll be on travelling solo by motorcycle.

Rather than travel all the way to Noordoewer, could I cut through the Aessenkehr Nature Reserve on the C37/D209. I’m guessing this is not a National Park with entry / exit restrictions or fees.

Is the C13/D212 currently navigable from the C37 junction and Rosh Pinah (it was closed in April 2025)?

There’s a Deep Water Crossing at S28”13.452’ E17”18.700’. Any info on this / is it currently a concern?

Marc,
According to the latest on DriveNam on FB on 4 June:  The gravel road from Rosh Pinah along the river towards Ausenkehr is open. Do not use Goggle maps, it is so often wrong.

Ausenkehr NR is open, no entry fees.
I cannot help with your waypoint, I use hddd.ddddd.  :)
Regards,
Hannes Thirion

Thanks Hannes, i didn’t think of DriveNam.

The waypoint was pulled from T4A but maybe i need to check my preferences after the laptop upgrade and App reinstall.

Appreciated

Hi Marc,

I just drove that route this week in opposite direction, all open, clear and dry. The ferry at Sendelingsdrift was still not running ten days ago, but may have reopened now if the Orange River has dropped enough. Oranjemund was a nice easy border crossing and a lovely little town to explore.

I made a data submission to change "deep water crossing" to "Flooding Possible with high water levels" - it was dry last week but it could flood if the river gets very high.

The Aussenkehr Nature Park (is the correct name - fixed on T4A now) only has signs up that you are entering so no fees to be paid - the locked gates are on the Quivertree/Canyon Route and the German Wargraves trail, keys and permits for these are available from the Spar in Aussenkehr.

Regards/Groete

Lizette
