Does anyone know the area around marker 5 on the map below near an area called Klein Serengeti?

I can see that it will be slow going at about 25 kph.

Is it worth doing this route?

The quicker and easier route is via Kamanjab

Good day,
I once drove from Kamanjab via the Khowarib Schlucht till it got to muddy. Then I left on the East side and got in Klein Serengeti. Which I found beautiful. Next to Palmwag.
I write rhis to warn you for the slippery mud in the Schlucht. Especially when you drive alone.

Have fun,
Frank

Thank you, Frank that is very useful.

Do you remember what month you were there?

I am planning for October next year, before the rains.

We will be two vehicles but I am never keen to get into mud.

What is the Schlucht? Is just like a big pan?

Hi Bobby,

I would have to look in my photo files to ascertain the date. Will do.
Generally your season will not be mud-prone.

Lekker pad.

Hi Bobby,

I did the Otjiheka trail in October from Erwee to Palmwag so I wouldn't know for the first part of the trip from Hobatere to waypoint 5 but the small part of Klein Serengeti I went through was great !!

In the last part when the trail goes down towards C43 it becomes quite narrow ...

It was very slow going , it took us 7h30 for about 65km ;)

The heat was incredible (over 40°C) but the Landcruiser 79 4,2l camper version rented from Bushlore just dragged us through there without problem...

take enough water just in case

No other vehicle on the trail...

An outstanding experience with fantastic landscapes hilly, rocky, some dry river crossings, savannah, and locals where you wouldn't expect any !!

Enjoy

Cordialement

André Rick

Hi Bobby.

My wife and did the track coming from Etosha and C25 to Khowarib march 2020.

We followed only a part of your proposed track, just south of Hobatere Concession, but my comment is only about Khowarib Schlucht.

There had not been rain so no mud, but the tracks were so many and so deep that in some parts we only crossed by sheer momentum. Some of the tracks were deeper than the clearance of the Toyota Hilux we drove. We just made it but the cost was a broken steering pump so we had to do the rest of the trip including Marienfluss without servo steering.

But we think that it was worth it.

The rest of the track we followed were slow going but without problems.

Regards

Xavier

Thanx to everybody that contacted me and offered help with my 276C problem with the new T4A maps, also the staff in Paarl office that I spoke to earlier’.

On Saturday Lizette and myself did quite an exercise and between Kraaifontein and Lusaka the whatsapp lines were “buzzing” for a big part of the day.

Eventually Lizette sorted out my problem , I can now install the Non Optimized style mapset on my 276C with Mapinstall as Mapsource do not like these new mapsets.

I also had to tweak a few settings on my 276C in order to work better with the map.

Dankie Lizette!

Good morning Erick,

A bit more information please. How much time will you spend on this route, is the purpose to get to Zimbabwe using these as overnight stops? Or will you take a couple of weeks travelling up to Zimbabwe?

In Gaborone, Mokolodi Nature Reserve is quite nice, and they have self-catering chalets.

South of Kimberly is Mokala Natural Park, but it is an arid park so it may not be to the kids interests. In Kimberley itself is the Big Hole museum, telling all about the diamond mining. It is a reconstructed mining town, and the kids may enjoy making fun of how people dressed in those days and communicated without cell phones!

Kind regards

@Bobby. Thank you for those POIs. Will filter some into the itinerary.

@Lizette. Not much time will be spend on the route really. It's more
of a "while we are on the way" type of sight-seeing. So effectively a
'drive-through'.

Thank you for the recommends on Reserves and accommodation. Will
definitely consider the Big Hole Museum.

Best,
Erick.

Good day all

Has anyone lately found that some of the Tracks4Africa emails land in the Junk Folder. The latest one that landed in my Junk Folder was the latest Newsletter dated 4 December..

I wrote to Mweb and asked why this is happening and they remarked as follows:

“”It looks like the sender has changed bulk mail providers.

The sender domain is different and numbers are randomised.

In the case below, it is mail145.suw161.rsgsv.net

Tomorrow, it could be mail123.suw123.rsgsv.net and I am not able to predict the possibilities unfortunately.””

I cannot say if this is true so keep a lookout in your Junk Folder……OR maybe this is just happening to people with Mweb accounts?

Hi Deon,

I'm sending this to our social media manager to check up on it. You should also be able to somehow right click on the sender email address and add to to the "safe sender" list, that should prevent it from going to junk mail too.

Kind regards

Thanks Marc, our social media manager says we are using MailChimp and the T4A domain name has been verified, so it should not land in the junk folder. She is investigating some more.

Anybody else with the same problem, please email me direct, and I will pass on to her.

Good afternoon all,

For those that are receiving the T4A newsletters in their junk/spam boxes, please see reply from MailChimp below. Hopefully there is some useful advice there!

According to Mailchimp, the Tracks4Africa newsletter is being successfully delivered. What neither Mailchimp nor Tracks4Africa can control is WHERE email clients (Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail, AOL Webmail, etc) place delivered emails in recipients’ folders. The only way around this is for the recipient to take measures on their side i.e. add to safe sender list.

@Deon Kotze , we're waiting for further feedback on your specific response you received from Mweb.

Below is specific information on how to move emails from Junk/Spam to Safe recipient for various email clients.

Apple Mail (desktop)

Teach Apple Mail's filter to allow future messages.
Open the junk folder and find the message. Move the message into the inbox.
Add your From email to the address book.
Open the message, right-click the sender email address, and choose Add to Contacts.
Mail (Apple iOS mobile devices)

Teach Mail's filter to allow future messages.
Open the junk folder and find the message. Move the message into the inbox.
Add your From email to the address book.
Open the message and click the From email address. Then click Create New Contact to input the address in the contacts list.
AOL Webmail

Mark a received campaign as Not Spam.
Open the spam folder and click the message. Click the OK, Not Spam button.
Add your From email to the address book.
Click Contacts in the navigation panel and click the New Contact icon. Input the email address and click the Add Contact button.
Gmail (desktop and mobile)

Mark a received campaign as Not Spam.
Open the spam folder and click or tap the message. Click Not Spam.
Add your From email to the address book.
Open the contact list, click New Contact, and input the address.
Outlook

Mark a received campaign as Not Junk.
Open the junk folder and click the message. Click Not Junk.
Add your From email to the address book.
Open the message, right-click the sender name, and click Add to Contacts. Authentication information may display in Outlook's sender name area, so ask the subscriber add your address only.
Outlook.com

Mark a received campaign as Not Junk.
Open the junk folder and right-click the message. Click Not Junk.
Add your From email to the Safe Recipient list.
Click the gear icon and choose Options. Click the Safe and Blocked Senders link, click Safe Senders, and input the message's From email address.
Yahoo Mail

Mark a received campaign as Not Spam.
Open spam folder, click the message, and click Not Spam.
Add your From email address to the address book.
Open the message and click the Add to contacts button next to the From email address.

Happy weekend!
