Good day,
I also posted this on the 4x4 Community Forum but though I will post it here also if any of you might have information.
We hiked the Boesmanskloof Hiking Trail over the weekend, which by the way was stunning. Anyway, from some reading it sounds as if years ago there was this idea to construct a road between Greyton and Mcgregor. There is a jeep track from Greyton towards Mcgregor that goes just under halfway of the route. (On another side note, this would be an awesome track to drive. But I am not sure that one is allowed). The rest is footpaths.
Anyway, towards the end of the trail, from Greyton, we saw this stone wall that resembles the walls built by Thomas Baine when he constructed the passes. I am not sure if anyone knows the specific history behind this and if they actually started with the construction from the Mcgregor side. If I look at the Google image, there could be a road from Eagles Nest to the point where there is now a huge rockfall. But at or around the wall there is no resemblance of any road construction. It would be very interesting to find out more.
This is the location of the wall https://maps.app.goo.gl/8SRrky21FviNuvxC7

This is a photo of the wall.
