Chirundu Zimbabwe/Zambia boarder post

Hi All

We are travelling from Lusaka to Mana Pools in May 2026. We did this journey back in 2028 at that time the border was fine, a bit congested but not problems. We also took food, both fresh meat and veggies over the border and we had no problems. Has anyone done this border recently and how did they find it? 

The alternative would be from Zambia via Kariba border, shop in Kariba, and then up to Mana but would prefer to do Lusaka to mana via Chirundu.

I've never had problems at that border.

Just be polite, smile and don't use runners.

Make sure you got interpol clearance.

You can get comesa insurance on the Zambian side if needs be

Hi Charles,

With the Kazungulu Bridge completed in 2021, a lot of the Chirundu truck traffic now diverts via Botswana and Zambia. The Chirundu border post is now also a "one stop" border post, so it should be easier and less busy than in 2018.

There is no restrictions on foodstuff moving between the two countries, besides your normal customs limitation on the amount of alcohol, cigarettes, etc

Hi, 

We were there in August 2025 going via Chirundu to Mana. 

We found attention to detail were on: 

* Interpol clearance a must. 

* They insisted on the original ENatis (not copy) 

* They gave us a tough time on the police stamp on other documents (they wanted a separate form of Commissioner stamp - rubbish I know). 

What we observed - runners used a new method what we believed was for money distortion. They took peoples gate passes, and miss place it. On purpose or not, but drama unfolded with one person (he had to cough up), as well as with another - so avoid runners. 

 

Other than that - nothing out of the ordinary.

Hi Johan,

Did they require Interpol clearance to enter Zimbabwe? I know Zim implemented it towards the end of 2024 (October I think) but then stopped it again sometime early (April?) this year. (It does not hurt to have it anyway!) To enter Zambia you do need that interpol clearance, mine was checked no less than 4 times when I entered at Katima end of August. 

Interesting that they ask for the "original" Natis document - if the vehicle is still under finance you cannot get the original, only a copy. I once showed a certified copy and when they asked for the original I produced a colour copy, made on a thin cardboard (not the original) and they accepted that - my originals are always safely tucked away somewhere because I have the nasty habit of leaving paperwork behind at border posts.
