Press Release
Condemn the celebration of 17th September as Liberation Day
17th September is a day of Hindutva Hegemony
Civil Liberties Monitoring Committee strongly condemns the attitude of all political parties, JACs of Telangana, Intellectuals and Print and Electronic media on 17th September. All these people are giving a colour of Hindutva hegemony by celebrating this particular day as Liberation day and by publishing the fake photos of Nizam bowing his head before Sardar Vallabhai Patel. This person had played ‘Operation Polo’ with the people of Hyderabad State and he is responsible for killing two lakh Muslims.
We want to clear this today that the 17th September is a “Black Day” and a day of Fascism which proves how the Minorities were crushed in the name of Democracy. We also want to say that celebration of 17th September as Liberation Day is completely wrong and this is leading to misguide and misinformation to common people which is nothing but distortion of history. The Hindutva forces took absolutely opposite stand on Kashmir independence just because the ruler was a Hindu. For the same reasons, this logic turned opposite in case of Hyderabad for political reasons and Hindutva hegemony.
Our simple question to all these people is that if it was liberation day why Nizam was made Raj Pramukh till 1956? If it is true that Razakars under the leadership of Kasim Razvi killed Hindus then why the Indian government did not take any action against them? Why did it provide safe passage to him with the facility of Aeroplane? Indian government did not arrest a single person in the name of Razakar, why is it so? Here the question arises whether the Razakars existed in reality? Did these Razakars belong to Muslim or Hindu community? Does anyone have proof of this?
But we have proved that Reddys were the landed gentry known as the deshmukhs and part of the Nizam’s administration. The Reddy landlords styled themselves as Desais, Doras and Patel. Several Raos and Reddys were noblemen in the court of Nizam and held many high positions in his administrative set up. They had formed their own army to protect their interest in the name of Razakars and when the Indian military reached the borders of Hyderabad State, the army of these people joined the Indian army and killed lakhs of Muslims and Communists. Reddys and Raos also changed their loyalty within a day and changed their dress from Rumi topi and Shervani to Gandhi topi, kurta and dhotis. Thereby became the members of Congress. This way the transformation of power took place in the name of so-called democracy.
Actually, the above is the real history. Now let us come to the present Telangana movement. In the present movement this committee observed that from the time this movement has been started, everyone has started celebrating 17th September as Liberation day. Everyone is abusing Nizam. Here we question to all the leaders of this movement as to what is the connection of Nizam with the present Telangana movement? On one side these leaders are fighting with the Andhra ruling class by claiming that all the development is done by the Nizam and on the other side the same leaders are criticizing, abusing and celebrating liberation day.
Therefore, this committee believes that the celebration of liberation day is nothing but to humiliate Muslims in the name of Nizam and promote the Hindutva hegemony. But it should be clear that if this type of attitude is continued it will be great loss to the movement of separate statehood. Because, without taking the confidence of Muslims, the achievement of goal is impossible. If at all it is succeeded, civil war will be started in future and Muslims will definitely come forward to protect their identity.
Civil Liberties Monitoring Committee appeals to all the political parties, JACs, Intellectuals, Activists, Print and Electronic media houses to be careful on the issue of 17th September, celebrating it as liberation day. Otherwise, it will be like saying, ‘burning yourself with your own hands’. Liberation cannot be achieved on the debris of two lakh peoples’ dead bodies. We appeal the Intellectuals, social scientists to educate the people about the facts of 17th September and also make aware the people about the secular and democratic values.
