That is a very timely intervention as it pulls the debate into the substantive issues of identity that Telangana movement is throwing up. It brings in the role of the state in construction of linguistic identity and most importantly the way in which the specificity of Deccan history and culture has been erased in the course of building this Telugu identity. For those soaked in Telangana history, it adds another layer to the debate, apart from that of modern Telangana history where Krishnadevaraya was mobilized in the battle for Telugu against the Nizam.
