Cobian Backup is a file-backup program that can be used to make automatic backups for your directories and files. Cobian Backup can be run as a service or as a regular application. It can backup to some other location in the same computer, to the network and even to an FTP server. The program supports compression and encryption.

Il programma supporta la compressione del backup in un file zip, la crittografia con una password e consente di aggiornare la copia di backup per i soli file modificati successivamente alla creazione della stessa, ottimizzando in maniera esponenziale il processo.

The main features I'm looking for are both differential and incremental backups, that way I can run differential backups about once a month and incremental backups every 1-2 days and I plan on occasionally plugging in an external drive for safe keeping and I may eventually add a NAS into the mix.

Cobian Backup works as both an application and service. The program is very light on resources for a backup program of its size and runs in the background very discreetly. it makes periodic backups but unlike some programs, doesn't seem to slow down your PC in the process. Cobian Backup acts too quickly to really slow down whatever you are doing although if it has to backup a very big file, you will notice some lag (more than 1 GB).

Cobian Backup only copies your files and folders in their original or compressed mode to another destination and does not perform any compression itself. This is to ensure that nothing is corrupted during the backup process but if you are backing up particularly large files, you might find this something of a problem unless you've got lots of backup space. However, Cobian Backup has limited compression and strong encryption methods available if you need to reduce the size of your files and protect them at the same time.

Cobian Backup is a multi-threaded program that can be used to schedule and backup your files and directories from their original location to other directories/drives in the same computer or other computer in your network.

The program supports compressing the copy to a zip file, encrypting it with a password, and when the backup of your files only the data and the files that have changed will be updated, enormously optimizing the process.

If you have been in the IT industry for a while, you have heard about Cobian Backup. It's one of the most popular file backup tools for Windows systems. It has rich backup features and is completely free for private and commercial purposes. This makes Cobian more than suitable for home users and small to medium companies that don't want to (or need to) pay for enterprise-grade backup tools.

The program has dozens of settings available, but the initial configuration is good to go right after the installation. Let's take a look at some settings you might want to change before you start your first backup. Access the settings by pressing CTRL+O or clicking the gear icon.

In this example, I will show you how to create a basic differential backup task to an SFTP target. SFTP support is the main new feature added in Reflector. The task will have the following parameters:

On the Files tab, select the source and the destination. In my case, I will back up the DOWNLOAD folder on the D drive to an SFTP target. The wizard will show an extra window for SFPT server configuration options, such as host name, port, authentication method, and initial directory. I will use password authentication for my server at 10.0.10.100 with initial directory /backup. Note that you have to create the directory on an SFTP server with the proper permissions first.

On the Archive tab, select Compress files individually, check Encrypt the files, and enter the archive password. As the name suggests, this will compress every single file to a separate archive. This comes with performance overhead and might take a very long time for large backups.

Note: Unfortunately, unlike previous versions of Cobian, it is no longer possible to use the "split archive" option. You can only compress the files individually, or create single archives for either a complete backup or for each source defined in the backup. This may result in very large ZIP files. Luis already announced that he would change the compression options in Reflector 2.0.

Of course, there are several drawbacks. Cobian is only a file and folder backup tool. It can't be centrally managed, does not support cloud targets, can't backup databases, or create disk images, and the restore process is a manual task. However, when it comes to backing up your files, Cobian will do just fine. You can download it here.Subscribe to 4sysops newsletter!

Recently we have encountered a problem with older backups not being automatically deleted. The problem started after we have (finally) upgraded our backup server from Win 7 to Win 10. It was a clean install of the OS. In the fresh environment, we have installed latest version of Cobian (11.2.0.582) and used task list with former backup jobs (15 jobs in total, if this matters any).

Another advantage offered by SyncBackFree is the possibility of cross-platform synchronization. Because it's compatible with Windows, Linux, Mac, and Android, it's much easier to exchange and backup files between all your devices.

It's always a pain trying to remember to backup things, so why not take care of it automatically with Cobian Backup? It is very light on resources and runs discreetly in the background. The program makes periodic backups without slowing down your PC. However, it is not suitable for very large files as it does not offer compression.

Cobian Backup copies your files and folders to another destination in their original or compressed mode. It does not perform compression itself to ensure that nothing is corrupted during the backup process. While this may be a problem for backing up large files, the program offers limited compression and strong encryption methods to reduce file size and protect them.

Cobian Backup allows you to backup your data on most local and online supports. It offers compression features to create archives, as well as data encryption support to keep your files secure.

Choosing the best backup software is not an easy task, you should not only consider the backup quality but also take the interface and the convenience of restoring a backup file into account. More importantly, how much money you're going to spend is also a crucial factor. Here in this article, we will help you to make a better decision. We choose 8 of the most popular backup software in the market and list each of their features, pros, and cons. Keep reading and see which one will be your final choice.

File History is a free built-in backup feature of Windows system since Windows 8. It's simple, doesn't have too many additional functions, but could satisfy your basic backup and restore demand. As its name suggests, File History concentrates more on files and folders backup, not on system backup. So if you prefer to use File History as the backup tool, you'd better prepare an external hard drive, in case you can't boot your computer when an OS crash happens.

EaseUS Todo Backup is the third-party backup and restore software. It has kept a perfect balance between automatic and manual control. Backup and restore with EaseUS Todo Backup is completely free. Unlike File History, you can not only back up files and folders with EaseUS Todo Backup but also can back up disk, OS, and Emails. You can also customize the backup settings. For example, encrypt your backup with passwords, set a scheduled backup time, and send you a notification when the backup is finished, etc.
