Africana Studies - Open Call For Support

Dear Professor Ogundimu,

I hope this letter finds you very well. My name is Oladipo A. Taiwo and I am writing you to solicit your support for an educational film entitled One Night in Brooklyn. Written and directed by Esosa Edosomwan, One Night in Brooklyn explores the concept of TransAfrican Identity. The film tells the story of a group of Brooklyn bohemians whose bonds of friendship and love are put to the test when they decide to throw a TransAfrican Independence Day party. The multi-cultural cast of One Night in Brooklyn will feature characters of Nigerian, African American, Ethiopian, Afro-Latino, and Afro-Caribbean backgrounds.

The target audiences for the film are college students and young adults in the African Diaspora between the ages of 18 and 30.  As a college professor I am sure that you are aware of the serious need for independent media targeting young people of  African decent globally. Today young adults are inundated with imagery produced by a commercialized hip-hop culture that promotes Western ideals of beauty, encourages violence, and glorifies materialism. Through the creation of One Night in Brooklyn, our team hopes to provide an alternative.

Here is where we need your support: As the associate producer of the film I am now working to raise $75,000 to finance our next phase of production. This $75,000 will allow us to pay for cast & crew labor, location costs, food costs, equipment rental costs, art department costs, and administrative costs.  In order to raise funds for the film we are asking a select group of college and university professors to support  the film by making a tax deductible donation.  Recently, the Black Film Center Archive at the University of Indiana- Bloomington published a blog post about our fundraising efforts. Our first contributor was Dr.Charles Johnson, a History professor at Howard University where he teaches courses on the African Diaspora and serves as the Director of the South African Research & Archival Project. Because of your scholarly commitment to the African Diaspora, we are asking you  to consider joining our community of supporters

We have a special donor category that we encourage you to consider entitled the Founding Producer. When you make a tax deductible donation of $110 dollars or more, you become a Founding Producer and 10% of your contribution will go directly to the TransAfrica Forum, an advocacy organization in Washington DC that seeks to influence the foreign policy of the concerning African countries and the African Diaspora.

Please watch our Indiegogo fundraising trailer, and select the donor level that works for you. No donation is too small. Your contribution to One Night in Brooklyn is 100% tax deductible  under our 501(c) 3 fiscal sponsor, From the Heart Productions.

Please visit our website for more information on the project: http://www.onenightinbrooklyn.com

Thank you so much for your consideration. Please call or email me with any questions.

Warmest Regards,

Oladipo A. Taiwo

Associate Producer - One Night in Brooklyn
